Satlite TV provider closed down

Post new topic

Has anyone had problems with their satellite provider closing? I had some installed and then 9 months later am told that the company has closed and turned off the reception and that I now have to pay for installation again? As this had a out £500 it has left a sour taste.  Is there a way around this. Thank you

Johncar

Not sure what signals you are (were) receiving    Where I live the sky satellite footprint was moved some years ago so reception.

I now have many U.K. programs which although not exactly legal,  I stream online through my ‘computer’  at no charge.  I have a VPN (virtual private network) which makes it appear that I am in U.K.  so BBC,  ITV  no problem

Maybe you could look at streaming

Hi Julie, and others ,
We have had a property here in Gran Canaria for over two years and as yet have not found a reliable supplier of a satellite tv system in that time , we have tried several so called professional companies but not perfect yet , we have had fibre optic fitted ,potentially up to 300mb, but most of the time nearer 100mb , still more than sufficient to power anything ! Every system  has cost between €150-€250+ and monthly charges of between €5-€35 , but as yet still getting buffering problems and some channels (ITV 1 in particular) have no sound at all,we are running out of options !
As John correctly said one solution is to stream everything through a PC or pad ,the problem with this is that not everyone is that computer literate and we have our aged mother staying with us and it would be totally beyond her to be left to figure out changing channels etc etc, and even then having our satellite boxes plugged directly into the internet doesn’t guarantee satisfactory reception .
Anyone reading this based here in GC that can help would be greatly appreciated.
The best provider we have found so far is a streaming service through a tablet, pad or mobile called TVMucho. It’s good for all freesat channels and catchup. Most British tv channels BBC, ITV Ch4 and 5.
This with Netflix is enough we fine but reliant on steam.

Thank you - streaming isn't an option because I am in a Cabin/Caravan so don't have Wi-Fi or internet. I'm just concerned that if I keep paying someone to come and fit the service at €500 a pop,  if I run the risk of that service also being turned off / switched/ made defunct !  I just feel it could be like a rip off  with the installer having no responsibility because the service is supplied by a third party and if they shut down you have no way of complain ing or challenging.

Hello Julie,
Did you know you can get a mobile router for fast WiFi to use anywhere? All you need for it to work is an electric socket to plug it in and away you go. I use one here in Gran Canaria and it works great. It’s just like any modem with connectivity on the box but works off its own SIM card just like a mobile phone. I use this with TVMucho which is a really good streaming tv provider and you can watch anywhere in the world as long as you get WiFi connection. It runs off a phone, tablet or pad, just download it and it costs as little as €5 per month on a 12 month contract.
I hope this is useful info for you and if you need any further advice on it let me know.

Martin.  Your posts are a little confusing.  You said you have optic fibre for your connection (we have had fibre optic fitted ,potentially up to 300mb, )  but now you say you use a SIM card connection  (It’s just like any modem with connectivity on the box but works off its own SIM card just like a mobile phone.).

Also can you say which company provides unlimited WiFi/ data for just 5 euros p.m. with a sim card ?  Mine certainly does not.

Thanks
