Was planning to retire in Belize, after reading many articles how racist the country is towards blacks, would hate to spend my hard earned money in such a country would rather stay in the US at least this is were i earned my money.  Disgrace!!! after all 90% of the population have mixed blood. When people don't know their history or who they are.

Fred

What you're saying is the vast majority of people in that country are racist - Isn't that a stereotype. thus more than a little racist?

I suggest looking at this with a critical mind rather than believe what could very well be sensationalist pieces written by a bunch of clapped out old hacks.

terrific

Please tell us where are you reading, that the country is so racist toward Blacks. Who are the articles you read written by?
Just asking because such racism doesn't seem apparent when living in the country. the population is so diverse and ranges through ever skin color known to man.

I would really like to know where and what you read to base this statement on.

One of the many things I love about this country is the lack of distinction between the many colors, ethnic backgrounds and ascents of the people I see and interact with daily.

i have seen genuine, open surprise, expressed  by several blacks from america at the harmony they have observed between folks here. One stated to me she wished the USA could achieve what is taken for granted here.

I can only speak about my experiences in the Placencia area, but would be surprised if other areas are much different.

Fred

This is looking like a case of missing critical thinking.

Hi Beverly1 - I think you should go and visit Belize and meet the people for yourself and don't rely on what you have read in the articles.  I am hoping to retire in Belize and most of the blogs I have read have been encouraging....my thing is, check it out for yourself before deciding not to go.

Well you people got it wrong , there is no racists against black , if there is any racism its toward white people , i have been here 27 years , the locals figure whites got the money, mainly because of television  and they will do or say any thing to get it, even your own watch man will sell you out to a  higher bidder , and they will kill you to get  it...facts are facts .

Is that racism ? I thought racism was a system that oppressed a group based on race.... a power thing. What you described sounds like a by product of poverty from a gringos perspective. Also sounds like someone need to read people better and hire folks with integrity. Paying your local workers like they are people & not your indentured servant helps as well. My humble two cents. I find Belize to be a fair place. Much more fair than this Trump country.

In the 5 years we have been visiting Belize, I have never seen or heard anything racist out of anyone I have encountered. Everyone seems to get along fine regardless of race or color, etc.   Belize attracts people from every race and nationality, and I have not seen any prejudice towards any particular group. Those who have been 'targets' of crime are not singled out because of race or religion, more because of perceived wealth, or secondary to some type of retribution.

We are an American mixed race couple  (I'm white and hubby is black) and have vacationed in Belize for the past three years. We have not seen, heard or experienced racism in any form there. In fact, due to the lack of racism, we decided to purchase land and will move there permanently in the next year or so. What we have experienced is more due to the locals thinking we have more money than we actually do.  That's not racism. Visit the country and see for yourself. Your source is dead wrong. The US is so much worse than Belize.
