I don't even know #3.  I don't think there was an official one when I grew up here, and I had to look up to see what the new ones are.  And man, am I flabbergasted when I saw some of them.  Patron Saint in a mostly Buddhist country?  Who came up with that?  What were the miracles, who verified them, and who canonised the sainthood?

ROTFLOL (not at you, Diksha, nor at the Expat team.  I'm laughing at the absurdity of the country I loved deeply for so long, once upon the time.)

Ha! She has gone back and edited her post. No more mention of patron saint. See what happens when you don't quote?

No, she didn't have the Patron Saint question, it's what I found when I looked up in some official site on the national symbols of Vietnam.  Diksha is more intelligent than those sites that sprout nonsense.

Facial likenesses are not really symbols.  Considering the banners that are displayed on roadsides near holidays, I think you could say that the hammer and sickle is the national symbol at this point in history.

I would call facial likenesses 'icons', something western cultures in general don't seem to comprehend.

Some icons are more 'universal' within cultures than others.

On September 2nd, I'll likely still be in Hanoi for the national day celebrations.

I'll let you know which 'symbols' dominate the scene.

#3 - I concur with the Thig thug.
Hammer and sickle and red star. They everywhere.
☭ ★
Soviet labor and red army symbols.
Strange that they persist, even comrade doesn't use 'em anymore.
