Chinese airstrip and projected naval base in Cambodia

I thought this article might be of interest to some:
I don't know if Cambodia will return to a posture of full hostility to Vietnam, but it might have an impact on so-called border runs. The way things are going, I expect the next US president after Mr. Trump will be negotiating with Nguyễn Phú Trọng on the terms of a return of the US Navy to Cam Ranh Bay.
Massive political spin in that one, and a lot left out.
Politics are a mess, commonly the domain of greedy swine with no interest in people but lots of interest in lining their pockets. Add the 'pretend to be friends until you kill them' normality of geopolitics, and I stopped trusting most politicians and journalists a long time ago.
I read that yesterday in VnExpress (Vietnamese version) There everything is described much more detailed.
China is doing what America has been doing for years. It wants to strengthen its military influence in the world. China is doing this to protect itself against the imperialists.
I see the only difference in building military power is that the USA does it under the guise of a self-proclaimed world police force.
For the last few years, I really see black for world peace.
But not because of the so-called rogue states.
China's oil supply routes are under threat, and they won't just let that happen, so they expand bases and build aircraft carriers.
No shock to anyone except the naive or stupid that believe whatever politicians tell them.
For me I don't think it is a matter of right or wrong. I have no particular sympathy for the American need to control oceans half way around the world. I am just observing that China may be driving Vietnam into an alliance with the US.
THIGV wrote:I am just observing that China may be driving Vietnam into an alliance with the US.
True, just strange how enemies become friends when required, even though the threat of evil communism they were fighting is now not evil communism because it isn't politically useful to mention it any more, but handy when the threat of evil communism from the most capitalist country in the world is a threat to to US capitalism because supposed communists are better at it.
Just to put those in the picture that are unaware, the US is making friends with Malaysia and Indonesia, not because they love majority Muslim countries, but because the vast majority of China's oil supplies go through the Straits of Malacca and it's easy to ignore the fact the countries they're helping are full of evil Muslims because they're really useful at the moment and most Americans have no clue about SE Asia anyway.
If the Straits were blockaded, Chinese ships only have two options, the long route at the mercy of US aircraft carriers, or north of Australia, exactly in the range of the quite new US airbase at Robertson Barracks (RAAF Base Darwin, Northern Territory).
As China has little by way of forces that can protect their oil supplies (Hence building aircraft carriers as quickly as they can), so they have to create islands and expand land based forces as far (and in as many countries) as they can in order to defend their supplies.
That is painted as expansionism and imperialism, but it's actually defense in the pure form of the word.
So, in summery, we have:
Evil communists that must be smashed as allies
Evil Muslims that must be smashed as allies
Evil communists that must be smashed because they're fantastic capitalists.
What a twisted world we live in. Perhaps I should take up getting pie eye drunk out my head again, and maybe even add drugs.

You win the prize for longest continuous sentence: 74 words. Good going. Irrespective of writing style your words certainly ring true.

This thread is a great study for those interested in socialist propaganda.
AkaMaveric amuses me, trying to pull one foot out of the muck while finding the other foot in yet deeper muck.
Muck sucks good buddy and breathes with a sick gurgle.
LMAO

I'm trying to find a mention of socialist countries on this thread, but none spring off the page. I understand a lot of people think China is socialist/communist/leftist, but that's about as wrong as putting custard on french fries and force feeding it to a cat would be.

Those who have a different world view than you are ignorant idiots, right?
Come out of your bubble!

I do not blindly believe every study.
It is obvious when you talk to people in this area (not only in Germany).
Lie and make up your own truth comrade.
Truth is the first victim of a socialist.
*** I do not blindly believe every study. ***
You just fabricate anything you want to accomplish your purpose.
Jim-Minh: I am not one of those who feel that expats should always "do as the Romans." I think that I can see the shortcomings of socialism as well as anyone. However if you feel that strongly, why do you want to live in Vietnam?
Jim-Minh wrote:*** I do not blindly believe every study. ***

You just described US democrats, or EU leaders. In EU, we are even bit further...building statues for Marx.
THIGV - parasites are a problem everywhere.
The US is still recovering from its last socialist.
This political stuff is getting a bit wild, a thread locking sort of wild if the major gods here take a dislike to it.
Perhaps we can agree to disagree to a level

Actually, Vietnam has an official policy of non-alignment, at least for now.
In an exclusive interview with VnExpress, Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh explains why Vietnam will not join any military alliance.
It is getting a bit wild when Google suppresses search results.
A huge portion of the world's economic resources is shipped through the South China Sea.
Nations that have economic ties to the West have resources that depend on those trade routes.
I see posts here that dispute American protection of trade supporting Japan and Taiwan.
How can you support the Chinese construction of pumped sand islands in Vietnamese and the Philippine claimed territory where Chinese military bases are constructed?
Those areas belong to Vietnam and the Philipines.
Dan911 wrote:You just described US democrats, or EU leaders. In EU, we are even bit further...building statues for Marx.
I am not sure quite what you intend to say but as far as I know there are no statues of Marx in the US. There is a bust of Marx in London, but it is on his grave, which should be acceptable to most people. There may be remnant sculptures in prior "iron Curtain" countries but can you specify where there are new statues? In actuality, significant segments of the EU seem to be drifting toward far right politics, not Marxism. What would you say if Italy put up a statue of Mussolini?
Jim-Minh wrote:I see posts here that dispute American protection of trade supporting Japan and Taiwan.
I don't read anyone directly opposed to US protection of trade routes. I do see (and hold) some skepticism about motives.
Jim-Minh wrote:How can you support the Chinese construction of pumped sand islands in Vietnamese and the Philippine claimed territory where Chinese military bases are constructed?

Please point out where anyone has supported the Chinese activities in the East Sea.
You are a little quick to ascribe positions to people that they have not directly voiced. AkaMaverick posted a link to a survey of Germans in Newsweek and you label him as a socialist. For all I know, he may even call himself a socialist. That is his choice, but your use of the term is clearly intended as a personal attack.

Well, EU is more and more left, it it actually becoming dome sort of neo-communism. Just look at the system. EU parlament looks like any other parlament we are used to-> looks democratic. But then there is EU commission, which we dont vote for, and they are above parlament. That itself sounds very fishy.
Otherwise, just google “ juncker marx statue” on youtube etc. You will see what those leaders are doing.
Also, censorship is at all time high and dozens of other red flags out there. Thousands of rules coming every day.
Fortunately, conservatives are rationally thinking people and are still present and getting stronger. Maybe we might still keep the EU free.
Dan911 wrote:Just look at the system. EU parlament looks like any other parlament we are used to-> looks democratic. But then there is EU commission, which we dont vote for, and they are above parlament. That itself sounds very fishy.
The EU is a democracy.
Every country has members of parliament in the EU who can bring in changes and improvements.
Every country that wants to join the EU has to agree to rules and treaty conditions.
If individual countries drift politically to the right and complain because they do not like the democratic procedures, they should piss off from the EU.
But they don't do it because they don't want to miss out the financial support from the EU.
But they always bash against the EU.
As I said before, anyone can say goodby as UK is doing right now.
Dan911 wrote:Also, censorship is at all time high...
You can hug Jimmy.
You see censorship and conspiracy everywhere.
Paranoid far-right without a clue.
THIGV wrote:Please point out where anyone has supported the Chinese activities in the East Sea. .
I'm unsure I can support them, but I can understand them.
This is about a number of things, those including oil reserves, fishing, and trade routes. the latter being the most immediate. One large global power has extended itself into the region with very large sea forces, those including aircraft carriers. China is very short of these ships and has little defense against them, so building islands with airstrips is their way of protecting their trade routes, especially oil supplies.
As for who should own any given sea, that should fall to the geographically nearest country.
As for the US butting in, I'll be happy to listen to that country when they give up all their conquered territory, that starting with Guam.

An article today related to the topic:
Due to the US military action in Iraq, Iraq throws the US military out of the country.
And the U.S. threatens to impose sanctions.
Coercion (aggressive sanctions because of the Nord Stream 2 pipelines and against institutions that want to keep the nuclear treaty with Iran, to name only two), blackmail, military interventions and economic terrorism. This is the America of today.
Whoever isn't a friend is automatically an enemy.
Maybe Cambodia is simply looking for a more reliable ally.
AkaMaverick wrote:Due to the US military action in Iraq, Iraq throws the US military out of the country.

Yep...
What "last socialist"?

Trump murdering a senior Iranian government figure in a third country was great move if you happen to be the Russian or Chinese government, but not very useful to the US.

This is exactly what USA wanted. It was not about the general being a bad guy. They knew Iran wont leave it without retaliation and the USA is looking forward to start new war.
I guess Iran should have not said back in November they found 53bil barrels of oil
Iran, hardly surprisingly, has hit back with missile strikes against US bases in Iraq.
They added, if the US reacts with more military strikes, Israel and a bunch of other places would be next.
I see trouble ahead because the white house is full of idiots, all devoid of any clues.
One has to hope, if Trump orders illegal attacks against civilian or cultural areas, the US military will refuse to obey.
Dan911 wrote:...the USA is looking forward to start new war.
Please note that the the citizens of the USA are not looking forward to war. Due to a fluke in our constitutional structure, we are presently led by a minority government in both the White House and Senate.
Fred wrote:One has to hope, if Trump orders illegal attacks against civilian or cultural areas, the US military will refuse to obey.
Despite his rhetoric, Trump can't order the bombing of any cultural sites, because he does not have enough personal knowledge to identify any of them, and he is not about to start studying up on ancient Persian civilization. He simply approves a bombing list he is given. The military has learned a lesson the hard way when they gave him the option of killing the general. They won't make the same mistake twice.
This report shows quite clearly who caused the chaos in the Middle East and thus triggered boundless hatred and terrorism against the West.
Conservatives are rationally thinking people? Why they believe so many proved falsehoods, then?
Right and left suffer from the same issues. Both see the world through their political glasses, never noticing the one where normal people live.
The US right see islamic terrorism everywhere, but totally ignore the vast majority of 'terrorist' attacks are against US invading forces, or happen as a direct result of interference in other countries. That holds true when you go back in history to the US invading or interfering in other parts of the world. The unbelievably idiotic situation where the same political morons defend gun ownership that kills by the boat load is stunningly daft.
Not that the political left are any better. The Ukraine fuel industry appointment was a pure cash grab by Mr. B and junior. That whole situation was an act of pure greed and exploitation by people claiming to care about the man in the street.
US politicians are not alone in being nasty grabbers, Brexit has highlighted how the UK's left wing morons hate any democracy they don't agree with, and that country's far right used leave to promote their brand of clueless racism. It's also worth noting most Remain politicians were well paid in some way by the EU or European companies/groups.
Politicians in many countries are only there for your cash, so the real stupidity is supporting them.
