The issue of the vaccine against Covid-19 worries the population and experts, but Feris Iglesias, infectious disease specialist and adviser on the matter of the Health Cabinet, explained that in the next week the first 150,000 doses of 20 million will arrive in the Dominican Republic that the Government processed.
The Dominican government hopes to immunize more than seven million from the age of 18.
The infectologist predicted that the first doses will be an incentive and assured that there is already a plan to vaccinate the entire population.
"We have confirmation that by the middle of this month, the first 150,000 of 20 million doses that the country has already contracted with different production houses will arrive," he said.
In addition, he indicated that the first in the inoculation process are in the primary line of action, such as health personnel who are exposed to people who suffer from any disease, many of whom may have Covid-19. If vaccine-producing houses comply with schedule, the country expects to start immunization in April and finish by the end of November.
“That year we are going to spend it vaccinating, because it remembers that there is a commercial battle between vaccine producers and to be approved by regulatory bodies, such as the United States Food Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States or the European Biotectromagbetics Association (EBEA), of the European Union, must pass 60% effectiveness in clinical trials ", he added.
Likewise, he considered that the regulatory bodies established that to approve a vaccine against covid-19, the biological one had to be effective with 60%.
Iglesias explained that all vaccines approved so far have more than 70% efficacy and insisted on the existence of a commercial war for supremacy, although all vaccines have passed security, according to Hoy.
He assured that research studies establish that when the second dose is applied, neutralizing antibodies are detected in 100% of those immunized with it.
Thank you DRVisitor : these are great news, everything out there that shed positive thoughts are good news . The market and vaccines providers will take care of themselves , possibly we will see more intellectual cooperation among them and hopefully we will all see it happen . Blessings krumite
Seriously hun! The flu kills between 20 and 60,000 people per year in the United States. So far Covid - has killed over 400,000.
Where do you get your info from.
According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, more than 280,000 Americans have died due to COVID-19. That is as many as the combined populations of Smith County and Cherokee County. But some people dispute whether those deaths were caused by COVID-19, or if those people might have died anyway, but happened to have it. Since the elderly and people with coexisting medical conditions are most likely to suffer severe symptoms from COVID-19 or die, viewers who ask the question often wonder if the deceased’s age or health was more to blame than the coronavirus.
Good post Stan R : there was a lot of confusion last year when Covid started creating havoc specially here in larger cities, from what I read almosteverything was attributed to covid . The media is a powerful tool but also may create a lot of confusion. I am in that risk age group , take my precautions just like looking your front door at night time, but my life can not be thinking about covid. Who knows this may unite the human race ? Blessings , I envy you guys enjoying the sunshine her is " F" cold . Krumite
Again just stop. There are very specific rules, medical rules on how a death is listed!  We will not be going down that rabbit hole again!
Is this or is it not a open discussion forum where different views can be. Put forward. Or is it like Facebook where only the views of the main stream are allowed. This is what it appears to me.
Hopefully people will stick to the facts StanR .
US current deathtoll is 480,000 and counting. DR toll is 2843. This is the publicly provided numbers based on experts assessments.
Thank you Planner😊
Before I get shot I will correct my post. 463,647 deaths in the US. This from John Hopkins university.
Global 2,320,684 plus or minus a few.Â
My apology
All you have to do is Google it how many people have died in the United States from covid-19 463000 have died there's been 27 million cases of covid-19.
Fascinating news coming from WHO investigators as to source of covid19.
Frozen meat imported and first identified in Wuhan market is now the prime suspect.
Now this could tie in with studies which found very close matches of the virus in bats from Cambodia. But now mainstream press is suggesting imported Australian beef may have been the source. I struggle on that one but Queensland is a place where tropical habitat is being eroded with human encroachment so it cant be ruled out.
Does go to show how unprepared we are for viruses spreading from animals to humans as we encroach on their habitats.
More reason for DR to come down hard on people that deforest here.
Heres the link in the Daily Mail.
There are interviews with the WHO scientist inspectors circulating on this high probability of imported meat being the source too.
We habe been living in a world of conspiracy theories so lets hope we may get to the real truth soon.

The moment I see a link to the Daily Fail, I cringe. The paper/comic has an atrocious reputation for making things up, as I saw with one of their stories some years ago. The events I witnessed first hand were totally distorted by that pathetic little rag.
Other than that, I always assume a story with political undertones (trade deals and tariffs in this case) is suspect until I can confirm it. As for this story, the 'news' Covid came from Aussie beef emerged from nowhere with little I've seen so far as backup for it.

China halts beef imports from four Australian firms as COVID-19 spat sours trade
Way too deep in politics to believe as a news story unless a bunch of reputable, not paid for by someone with an interest in the subject, scientists come up with evidence either way.
If I were a betting man, I would bet on this virus having come from frozen products somewhere and that would explain the Italian outbreak better. There were concurrent outbreaks happening as I recall. Clearly there was a significant early outbreak in China but the outbreaks in Iran and Italy need explanation especially because Italy was the link to the massive spread in Europe and the Americas.
We have been fed far too much politics in this whole saga. We need to know the facts so we avoid the next pandemic and imo a part of that is to protect the wild animal habitats that still remain.
Fred I am no fan of the Daily Mail but at least they are voicing a possible explanation. But the key is the story is coming from some highly reputable scientists investigating the source. Politics is not in play here. Wait and see.
You may ask what is the relevence to DR. Simple, DR is allowing illicit deforestation and that mixes wildlife... bats too....with humans more. Where man imposes on nature especially in the trooics there is a risk of viruses existing with animals being transferred to humans.
I like it lennoxnev: So true human encroachment in big cities , china does not have that luxury because of the population numbers 1.350 billion is a lot , so you end up staking them vertically . I studied that subject years ago in a publication dated back to the 70's it was called the crises of the big cities . where I am selling the house the big city is about 1/2 drive and that is Dallas , I worked there for a while and your life evolves around how to beat the traffic jam and when it is going to be my turn to be in a car accident? Here the east side of the state is almost empty yet all the industry is concentrated around Dallas, Houston or the capital , we have a good rail way system and good highways and the answer to traffic jam is let us design another highway on top of the 2 more we have already and allowed to say some when you are that high up there on high winds it becomes very hard to drive a vehicle. Is just bad urban planning , look at New York 1/2 million for a 1 bedroom apartment with the view of Central Park and if you go there at a certain hour for sure you will get in trouble. governments should look at all this as a whole big puzzle and the correlation with the other pieces of the puzzle. it even impacts the individual behavior , I learned this many years ago, people around coastal areas are more mellow than in high dense areas. D.R. is still on time to curve things for the better, good jobs, good human interaction can co-exist with nature habitats . Krumite
Let's see how this plays out and not get too far off on a tangent.
This could easily be another topic!
Another 45 days of state of emergency has been requested by the President.
Would take it through to mid April.

Remember people....
this doesn't mean any or no changes in the curfew routine
The SoE is just the authority to apply health safety measures.
Those measures can change - any time
The government has got the message wrong about vaccines coming and is facing criticism.
DR was never going to have much in the way of vaccines with a March start with the majority of the doses arriving in the summer. It is on the record but has not been properly conveyed to the population.
DR is just like many other developing countries and will have to wait as the vaccine manufacturers ramp up production. The reality is Europe is struggling too getting enough vaccines too.
I suspect the problem was that the government wanted to shift attention away from the contiuing state of emergency and curfews by promoting vacccines are coming soon.
Let's face it controls are not going away anytime soon and it would be a great achievement to have most of the population vaccinated by the end of the year. But the reality is many countries will still be vaccinating their populations through 2022 and beyond. And then begins the need to get boosters.
Vaccination plan against COVID-19 in limbo
Amid strong criticism of the government's handling of the pandemic and the lack of a plan for the vaccination process, the Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday to extend the state of emergency for another 45 days as of March 2 at the request of the Executive Power.
Meanwhile, residents of popular sectors of Greater Santo Domingo believe that the authorities should offer accurate information about vaccines.Â
Although they approved the extension of the state of exception, legislators from different banks asked the authorities to establish a national vaccination plan, which allows citizens to have a clear vision of what the process will be when the first units arrive.
The deputies requested that the government also establish a plan for a gradual return to classrooms, while others complained about the curfew.
Meanwhile, residents of the Herrera sector affirm that despite government announcements that the vaccine will soon arrive, they still have nothing established.
"What happens is that what arrives here in Santo Domingo is always the retrograde, the latest," explained Rosa Paulino, a merchant.
“And it will never come, it will come for the rich. We poor people are nothing, "said Gladis MarÃa, a resident.
"What happens that the vaccine does not arrive, tie people need to be vaccinated", assured Luisa Severina, stylist.
Now the legislative piece must exhaust the bureaucratic procedures in the Senate of the Republic and be sanctioned in the hemicycle.
Yup they are giving out bad conflicting messages.  In my opinion, just tell the truth and let people deal with it! Â
Vaccines are months away for most of us. We will continue with some kind of curfew and many types of activities and businesses will remain closed.Â
That is our reality.
Get to know Sinovac, the Chinese vaccine that the Dominican Republic will use against COVID-19
The Dominican Republic has a contract with three laboratories to purchase the vaccines it will use against COVID-19 . Sinovac, which comes from the Chinese laboratory of the same name, was announced this Thursday as a member of that group by the country's president, Luis Abinader.
768 thousand are the doses that would reach the country , according to the president, who promised that the government's vaccination plan will be announced this Monday, February 15. He did not specify the date on which the Chinese drug would reach Dominican soil. The other contracted vaccines are AstraZeneca (which would provide the most), Pfizer and the one from the global Covax network...........
Covid: What do we know about China's coronavirus vaccines?
thank you lennoxnev: you have become the forum researcher really good report to read ,this way maybe individuals will seek options . Blessing .Krumite
I know I am responding to you post a little late but here is my assessment there are over 300,00 Chinese families full time in Italy dealing with fashion and many other things , their lunar year is on February upon their return back to Europe maybe they had it in them? Krumite

Curfew update
No change.....not surprising....suspect they want to get the positivity down to about 10% before relaxing a bit more. Far too many daily cases in Santo Domingo and Santiago and higher positivity.
Government extends curfew until March 8
The Executive Branch reported this Sunday that it extends the curfew until March 8, a measure that seeks to contain the expansion of COVID-19.
Through decree 107-21, dated February 18, the Government maintains all the provisions in force in decree 37-21, of January 22, 2021.
The measures consist in that the curfew hours in the national territory from Monday to Friday are from 7:00 at night to 5:00 in the morning, while on Saturdays and Sundays it is from 5:00 in the afternoon until 5:00 in the morning.
The extension is to the 8th March and the next decree is going to be a tough call.
Semana Santa would be on the minds then, and mindful of the errors made in relaxing the curfew for the festive seasin and the time is has taken to begin to recover the situation, my bet is that even with an improving situation, the current curfew hours will remain or a small relaxation at best but hopefully not Sundays which imo should stay at 5pm for a long time.
Curfew has been very effective for DR.
Wasn't Semana Santa a non-event last year ?
