Yup, we lived in Kingwood for 6 years, from 1999 to 2005.
We bought a 5 bedroom house there which was very nice, but eventually it didn`t work and we returned to California.

So much has changed since you moved. I45 still a bitch, but back roads were nice drives.
From no State income tax, low gas prices, and low prop taxes to Hollywood where the tax everything, even to breathe.

Good news is got Tequila yesterday  :)  Sipped it all through Portuguese class. My pronunciation was a lot better!!!! :joking:
Did not get the books from Amazon, but they knew what was important

A few bottles of Scotch also arrived from Amazon a week ago.  :D Good choices at Amazon!

Texanbrazil

True. Arrived in 2 days. Good choices in wine.
Vitamins seem a little high, but no trips back home, I will bite the bit!
Still waiting on the novel.
Think I shop a little more right now!  :)

Centrum Silver R$349.90 plus R$40 shipping. I´d go with 150 tabs for 8.50USD at Costco!

Tex,
You might be thinking of the Woodlands, also very nice and on Hwy. 45.    Kingwood is on Hwy.  59, not an Interstate.
As for the low prop taxes, I must disagree.  Back then I was paying 6 K annually.  California is not as bad, and now I don`t pay state taxes, but property costs are out of control here.

Robal,
Are you kidding?  $ 70 for a bottle of Centrun?

As part of my job, I had to fly away a lot and always tried to be somewhat close to an international Airport.  In Kingwood I was exactly 18 minutes from my front door to the Bush International Terminal C, the main one.  Except to go to the airport I always avoided getting past FM 1960, as no one I know hates traffic as I do.
So, I 59 is now I 69?  Interesting.  I wonder why the change.
We moved from a country club in Rancho Mirage, California (Low Desert Area) to Kingwood.
At the country club it took me one year before I said "Hi" to a neighbor and received a response.
In Kingwood, within 3 months all cul de sac neighbors had already been in my house and I had been in theirs.  Texas sure is different.

Texanbrazil

Yeah, Ron, they had signs "proposed I 69" from McAllen to Longview for years and started work on making it an Interstate a few years before I left.
Big mess beginning at NASA to Kingwood. Then from Longview to Livingston.
15 minutes to IAH? Wow, I was on the landing flight path and hated it. Every 5 minutes jets overhead.

Hi Tex,
All the places you mentioned had a part in my life.  When I was on a project in Mexico, because of the odd connections and schedules, I would rather drive from Parra de Las Fuentes (Coahuila) to Reynosa/McAllen, spend the rest of the night at a hotel in the US side then take an early flight to Houston.  I also had a project in McAllen where the top client was blind, due to a genetic issue, and his "white cane" were two gorgeous Playmate type girls.  He lived in Palm Beach and took his Falcon 5 to McAllen where he had a mansion behind the Hilton hotel.  Our presentation took place at the mansion`s swimming pool, with both girls wearing tiny bikinis.  No one paid any attention to the presentation.
I also had a project in Lone Star Steel and our hotel was in Longview.  I was there for a few months.
Good memories from Texas.
My kids were all small when we were in Kingwood and sometimes I would take them to the road at the head of the runaway at HIA just to see them in awe of the birds flying by.

Texanbrazil

I too miss it. I had a rancho in McAllen. Office in Larado, Midland, and DIlly.
I lived and worked in Longview. Settled down in the Magnolia/Tomball area. Had a nice 5 br with 7 acs with barn for the horses.
Many miles all across TX, LA, OK, and Kansas.
Short 6 cold months in Gillette WY.
Back in the "ole days" went across the border all the time. Nevermore.  :o
Stay well amigo

Brazil has just surpassed two covid milestones (today, August 8, 2020)...

Over 100,000 deaths

Over three million cases

These are the official numbers, according to CNN.

Brazil has the most covid casualties in these categories worldwide except for the country run by The Most Dangerous Man in the World.

Jair Bolsonaro, who infamously refused to wear a mask in defiance of a judge and a revolving door of health ministers, tested positive for the virus in July.

Despite the pandemic, a 50-year old elephant named Mara has successfully been transported from her Hindu-temple replica of a home in Buenos Aires, Argentina's Palermo neighborhood to an elephant refuge in western Brazil.

Born into captivity in India and having lived in Germany, the longtime circus elephant once resisted performing so much that she killed a trainer.

The 1700-mile trip into Brazil required massive paperwork and logistics.  The final destination was Elephant Refuge Brazil, a 2800-acre compound recently established in the state of Mato Grosso.  After decades in captivity, Mara now has room to roam.

The photo essay about the move, titled How to Move Your Elephant During a Pandemic, appears in the New York Times.

"Texas sure is different.". A very heart warming statement.

I still have a lot good friends living in Texas even after moving back to Brasil in 2008.

Have a great day!

They want to open schools here, but teachers and workers said they would strike.
I read in GA., they open schools (tested all students) and now 900 students tested positive in 1 week.

That was a topic heavily discussed by families I´m helping in RS. All of them are saying they´d rather have their children fail the school year than to let them attend school during COVID-19. They are having classes online although parents have to monitor and help with the instructions. I´m glad I bought 2 computers for the 2 children I´m sending to school.

The New York Times (monitored online) tells about Jair Bolsonaro's sabotage of calls for lockdowns and quarantines during these covid months.

The article explains that the widespread nature of the virus in Brazil has helped make the country ideal for testing potential covid vaccines, since so many people in the test population are exposed to covid.

Many Brazilians are eagerly volunteering to participate in covid vaccine tests, reports The Times.

After Jair Bolsonaro tested negative following his July covid infection, he said he had never felt ill.  Soon after, he developed a lung disease, for which he took antibiotics, from which he has also recovered.

Bolsonaro credited the unproven 'covid drug' hydroxycloroquine for his becoming negative for covid.  He allowed himself to be photographed frolicking in a palace garden with an emu, offering the same drug to the gawky bird, apparently mocking the covid clamor.

Bolsonaro has infamously refused to wear a mask during Brazil's sad covid history.

I seem to me like Bolsonaro has a pathological necessity to emulate Donald Trump, as if Trump were his master and mentor.

Yesterday, the Congress overrode Bolsonaro's vetoes of some important sections of the new legislation to control covid.  The overrides included:

-- a requirement for masks in all public places, including churches and anywhere where people are likely to gather;
-- fines for people refusing to wear masks as required;
-- a requirement for the Federal Government to provide potable water, medical services and supplies, and hospital beds to indigenous settlements affected by covid

These requirements are now enacted as law.

Blood thinners appear to reduce the risk of death by up to 50% among seriously ill, hospitalized coronavirus patients, researchers reported Wednesday. So aside from repurposing medications to control SARS-CoV-2, the need to control inflammation and
also clotting is a must:
