Long term rental

Post new topic

EliCabi

Hello all,

I’m moving to PR sometime between March and May of 2021. I’m going to be renting while I look for a house to purchase(12 months). When would be a good time to start looking at rentals? Or any advice in general on renting.

You can start by looking on clasificados.com for largo plaza rentals. You are expected to fill in information in the little pop-up box as to where you wish to move, size of apartment (determined by number of bedrooms). It can be tricky if you don't know your way around the island or the names of the areas. Be aware that some real estate agents who list on clasificados don't return calls (??) or don't bother to remove rented listings. I found the situation frustrating, and I was already living here and just wanted to move! Of eight apartments that seemed like possibilities, only two actually resulted in walk-throughs, and one was in a building so old that you couldn't get a modern couch through the narrow front door. It's easy to rent an expensive apartment but the lower the price, the greater the challenge. Good luck!

What area are you wanting to move to?

I’m moving to Ponce. I’ve looked on Facebook marketplace and clasificados as well, not seeing much.

I have a house in Cabo Rojo. 3 bed 2 bath in nice development. I am about 30 to 45 minutes from ponce.

Most of the realtors will not return your calls if your phone number is not PR. It is a waste of time for them to deal with mainlanders, because most of them just look around and not serious to rent or buy.

Don't rent without checking it first.

The best is to stay in a hotel a short-term rental for one week and then find something for longer term.

Hello....I know it's a long shot, but would you still have a long term rental in Cabo Rojo? I currently live in CR, have a family of 4, and have to move by July 1st. (Current home is being made into a short term vacation rental property).

I am the person who started this rental thread looking for a place as Saysme. I would be interested in CR. I have been looking there but agents are unreliable in terms of response. Please let me know about the house. Thanks.

We were looking to sell our house. Not to rent. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Good luck in your search.

it is surprising to me that people want to buy/ build houses in Pr, given what i believe to be the frequent storms, poverty and more than uncertain future. Wouldn't the above argue for a rental? Let us not forget global warming and the proximity of mother ocean.
LisaHG
I'm amazed people want to build, considering the inconvenience, high price and inevitable delays, not to mention potential gringo prices. But buy? I did it. Insurance covers storms, natural disasters happen everywhere, and if you love the island, buying a home gives you the opportunity to become invested in the community and perhaps help people less fortunate than you.

@jon wolaver Natural disasters are nothing like in the U.S. Main Land since construction codes are much better and stronger if a cat 5 hurricane comes to your town you just lock the doors and windows and stay inside you house, that is what we did and utilities were re establish in about 3 weeks in our area. Poverty in Puerto Rico is not as prevalent as you may believe you would be very surprised. also FYI global warming is not a problem for coastal areas since Puerto Rico's land mass is over 600 millions years old and has survive previews climate changes without problems.
