Moving to Paraguay from South Africa

Post new topic

Barnez299

Good day all. My name is Barnes - I am from South Africa (Cape Town) and wanted to know if anyone has recently (in past 2 years) moved from SA to PY....can you please share good bacd and not so ugly side of things --and what would be best resources to use....please xplain the cost side of things - as they keep referring to 5000 USD - but it seems unclear if that number is correct.
Thanks in advance

You have to deposit 5000$ into the goverment PY bank to apply for residence. This is one amount for an entire family, to show you have funds. After you recieve residence you get that money back again. Then you have to get a lawyer there to help with residence application. It can cost anything from 1000$ to 2000$ per person. We are in the process to go in 2021. There is many info on facebook group Suid Afrikaners in Paraguay. Hope this helps.

My understanding is that right now, it's $5500.

Also, I suggest this book on Amazon, by another Saffer who did it for his family and himself: "How to Emigrate from South Africa to Paraguay". $10 well spent.

Hi trying to make contact with any South Africans already living in Paraguay. Thinking of immigrating and doing as much research as possible.

Good day,  5000USD is a deposit at a national bank, not interest bearing, but you get it back at the end of the process. Other costs as well. Most important get your required documents from DHA  and SAPS clearance (check validity period)  Regards

Other costs are not refundable. You have to budget for such.

@JulievdMerwe we live in Caaguazu, Paraguay and have been in Paraguay since September 2018. We lived in various parts of the country, from as far north as the Chaco to the south right on the banks of the Parana river, in Coratei. I also lived here in Caaguazu during 1994/5. The $5000 is no longer needed, and you certainly don't need a lawyer to do you residence application process.

Anybody needing information on Paraguay is welcome to contact us. We are not "immigration agents" and we certainly do not plan on making money off of any expats.

Hello Johan,

I have a question. I live in Ecuador, but i am curious to know whether the renters of apartments or houses in Asunción typically have their electric or water bills in their own names instead of the landlord-owner's name? I ask this question, because often times U.S. financial institutions ask for proof of residency, which often means an electric or water bill that has the renter's name on it.

Thanks

Johan Smal

@Mr. Barley we've never had a utility bill in our own name in Paraguay. I did not see this as a problem, so I have no idea whether it is possible or customary.

@Johan Smal, I'm an Afrikaner who grew up in America and I am being trained to teach English. Is there an Afrikaans community or school in Paraguay where I could teach English? Thank you.
