Pierogi's TV appearance.

It's not every day that D.C. Channel 5 sends a news team to the residential neighborhood of cute puppy Pierogi (Eastern European dumpling) in Leesburg, northern Virginia.

So when intrepid reporter Bob Barnard shows up with his microphone and camera crew to report on icy roadway conditions, Pierogi runs out to investigate.

Bob entertains the young pup on live TV until someone from the family comes to reclaim her and Bob can toss back to the studio knowing that Pierogi is in safe hands...

The Netflix "Explained" series has an episode this season explaining dogs -- how they evolved from wolves, how they have found ways to communicate better with people than other species can, how they have evolved to be open to loving seres humanos.

While dogs are not the smartest of animals, they have had the right smarts for thousands of years .. to bond with humans and become man's best friend.

This 'dog-umentary' is a 21-minute program

Planning for Lola puppies.

Paps is putting out the word via his YouTube site... He'll breed his 2-year-old Siberian husky Lola with 10-year-old Rupert.

The plan is to keep one of the puppies in the Milperthusky family and give away the other pups to U.K. families.  (The Milperthuskies live in Manchester, England.)

Paps' partner is pregnant with the family's first daughter .. so both the human and canine sides of the clan could be growing by around New Year's.

Dora, the cute 7-month-old Terrier mix, has an attitude to dominate her world.  She will be in grave physical danger if she attempts to dominate the wrong, larger dog, according to famous "dog whisperer" César Millán.

Reunited.

Separation anxiety.

Dogs with separation anxiety may express it with destructive behavior.  The human returns home only to find articles chewed, pillows strewn, furniture abused.

Ladrón misbehavin'.

Ladrón (Spanish for 'thief') is a beautiful super-black German Shepherd who is more than Mami can handle.  He's a squatter on Mami and Daddy's queen-size bed instead of his nearby doggie bed .. and obviously has no interest in leaving the bigger bed.

Mami can't dislodge the Shepherd on her own, even when she repeats "Baja" (get down). 

But Mami has a speaker-phone and knows Daddy's phone number.

How long will it take for distant Daddy to successfully persuade Ladrón to vacate the big bed and relocate to the bed Daddy had bought for him?

Cookie & Cream get the Perry Mason treatment.

Dogs that don't get exercised sufficiently are prone to take it out on the furniture or cushions.

When two dogs have been left alone and their human discovers the damage, he is understandably perturbed .. and isn't sure which doggo to blame.

In this case, females Cookie the German Shepherd and Cream the Golden Retriever get the Perry Mason cross-examination treatment from you-know-who (no, not Hamilton Burger).

The K-9's are giving up no information, as is often the case, even when the human raises the volume of his interrogation.

Semper spoiled again.

If you believe the YouTube headline, the most-spoiled German Shepherd dog in the world lives in New Zealand .. with his family that includes Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Wolf and their feline pet, Cat.

Once again, Ryan memorializes Semper's big day with a fresh video.

Leader of the pack.

Augusto, a "dog whisperer," grew up on a farm in Brazil with dozens of dogs.

In this video, he demonstrates how he gets a half dozen German Shepherds to walk in close quarters with him, off-leash, in Boston, Massachusetts.

The well-mannered Sheps live in an apartment with Augusto, who operates kennels for a living in Hyannis, Mass.

GSD arrival at the White House.

Joe and Jill Biden have welcomed their latest German Shepherd to the White House.

He's a three-months-old puppy named Commander.  The New York Times wrote this up .. and has a video (with Commander and POTUS) and a photo of the young doggo at nytimes.com ("Biden Welcomes a New Puppy...")

The previous GSD's are gone from the White House.  13-year-old Champ passed away in mid-2021.  His younger companion, Major, had trouble adjusting to life at the presidential home;  witness several biting incidents.  He now has a new home away from the iconic building.

The Shilohs.

Shiloh Shepherds have been bred since the 1960's by mixing German Shepherds with a few other breeds.

Shilohs, as a rule, are larger and calmer than German Shepherds and their coats often do not have the brownish hues for which the GSD's are known.  They have fewer of the health issues that can afflict GSD's.  They are considered excellent family pets with relatively soft personalities.
