Moving to Turkey with cats?

Post new topic

Wissam Moussa

Hey everyone!

My name is Wissam, I'm new here and I'm planning to move to Turkey from Lebanon.

I will be moving in with my siblings and as many as I can of my 13 cats in Beirut.

I'm very nervous about this move because I don't know if it is even possible to find a homeowner who will let me rent their place with all of my cats. I'm looking for a house with a garden that I can fence (for the cats). I tried apps like Sahibinden but my research is just starting.

If anyone here has tried a move like this before with many cats, kindly reach out and tell me about your experience. And if any cat welfare NGOs in Turkey can help me with information about the legal process involved, that would be super helpful as well!

I'm not aiming for a specific city, but I don't speak Turkish yet so I'm looking for cities with the most expats. My siblings and I work remotely so we don't need a city with job opportunities.

Thanks for your timeðŸ™

Hi Wissam,

I've done that precise move myself, only with cats AND dogs.
It was difficult to find a place, I'm not going to lie.
However, what I found most helpful during my search was Airbnb.

You search for homes in your desired locations, tick the "pets allowed" filter, and go from there.
All you have to do is message the owners and ask them if they will be willing to rent long-term and if they're okay with the cats.
Also, sometimes people forget to add that pets are allowed in their place ... so I wouldnt necessarily stick to only the filtered options.
What I did was this; I drafted a general message which included my questions about the place and obviously some buttering up with compliments about the place (general stuff) and I sent that same message to every property that caught my eye on Airbnb.
Owners usually answer quickly there.

Again... it IS hard, but not impossible.

Best of luck!
Lia
