Does MoM carry out BG verification for candidates on its own?

My Ep is pending for a quite long time (more than 2 months) with MoM. When the employer approached MoM to withdraw the application, it's informed that the application is pending cos of BG verification. Moreover, MoM denied to reveal any info other than this.
I've heard few cases where MoM might ask additional docs as part of BG verification from candidates only. Like, education transcripts and so on.
I'm now surprised to hear that MoM is doing BG verification on it own. Can anyone please let me know if you've seen any cases like mine?
Does MoM carry out BG verification for candidates on its own? If so, what are its means? If it's any external agency, is it possible for me to check with the agency?
Is there any way to tackle MoM's BG verification to speed it up?
Hi Dinesh,
MOM does not do BG on its own .They generally have a tie up with 3rd party agency. In my case MOM asked to give the consent to 3rd Party agency for BG.
Beppi- Think by BG he implies Background Verification.
Dineshjk92: It is very common for MoM to engage a 3rd party (one of the 4 agencies they have tied up with) to conduct a background check on either your educational or work credentials. Takes about 4-6 weeks in itself if all is well and the organization/ University is responsive.
No, you won’t be given any further details of which agency has been engaged by MoM. The idea is to keep it as a parallel and confidential verification. But once the check report is submitted, you will get a approval (if there is nothing outstanding and all is in order).
Yes, I meant "Background" by BG and "background verification) by BGV
Shekhz: It makes sense. But waiting for BGV indefinitely is completely not acceptable. For instance, few organizations I worked earlier might not even turn around as they don't have a team catering to ex-employees. In that case, I don't think even after 6months, there won't be a response. It doesn't make sense at all. If the entities are not responding, then it doesn't mean my BG is not satisfying. Isn't it! In cases like these, either MoM or the agency should have another plan at least.
Moreover, may I know why MoM proceeded with BGV for my application while for my other friends/teammates from same background, EP got approved without BGV by MoM?
I'm literally tired of chasing, struggling against all of these for the last 5months. I think, it's time for me to leave Singapore for good
just curious, is it your first application? im wondering if MoM need to do bg check even if theres no new information & its not the first time they got their pass approved. im applying my 2nd s pass now

It is MoM’s decision to pick any specific application for a spontaneous background check or if there is a University that’s in MoM’s radar for any previous forgery cases.
BGV is usually done on educational certs, so please be patient and if you don’t concur with MoM’s decision, I think you need to get in touch with MoM and express your views- I wouldn’t do it, if I were you, I’d confidently wait for the positive outcome of the BGV.

Doesn’t really matter whether it is your first or second attempt at a pass, or even a renewal for instance.
Sometimes, MoM spontaneously picks up on an application and decides to engage an external agency, or reach out to your application submitter requesting for additional documents for verification. It’s been on an increase over the past few months- owing to forged educational credentials from some applicants.

I agree: In the current climate, MoM will happily accept any reason to reject foreign employees. If you want to stay on, you should not give them one. But if you really find MoMs procedures unacceptable, it is time to leave. (There is no other option, unfortunately.)

Shekhz: Thanks a lot for the insights! Of course, I accede to MoM's decision, however my current situation is not so favoring to me. My current EP will be canceled this month's end. I'm trying to convey this to MoM. If I have a concrete job now, then awaiting MoM's outcome for this long wouldn't hurt me this much. But now this is like life or death important. Yes, of course I do have STVP but I'm worried about the chances of approval when there's no outcome since 3months. I'm not even able to go ahead with new job by other employer.

beppi: I understand. But it's not about I agree with MoM procedures or not, but it's about my deadline. I'm running out of time as a result I'm so worried about the appeal.
I understand your concern and anxiety, but I am afraid MoM will not take that into consideration. Good luck!
I have similar situation. My 2nd ep renewal has been pending for 4 months already. I have already submitted the educational verification last month but mom is still waiting for inputs from external agency. I believe they are doing their own verification for my educational or background check… no idea why, but I’m willing to be patient and wait. Mom did extend my ep during the pending.
My Employer was asked to engaged Sterling RISQ for my educational background check after an Appeal was applied recently. Btw, I started in SG 2008 - 2016 then 2018-2020. Previously held EP & SPASS during those years mentioned. Its only in this recently EP application after it was REJECTED and an APPEAL was applied and was asked for educational background verification. Maybe I was randomly chosen

Please scan the forum, this is a topic often discussed. Additional scrutiny is common now.
MoM does not do BG verification at its own..it requests the EP requester(generally employer/EA ) for a report from 3rd party like Avvanz. Always provide as much info as possible like contact email, phone no. so that 3rd party can do verification at its earliest .
