L card vs B card

Owokotomoolajumoke

If you intend to apply for citizenship then either you apply for B or L it does not matter since both can be used to apply for citizenship.

Regarding the processing time, the L card is 5 months while the B card depends on the duration you have left on your current card. So if it remains 9 months then processing time is 9 months, if it is one year then processing time is one year.

@maharaji1984 You can apply from exactly 5 years to the first date you registered yourself at the commune (not the date of first issue of your A card). So if you registered on January 5th, 2019 then you're eligible to apply from January 5th, 2024.

tunde4elohim

@maharaji1984 You can only apply from exactly 5 years to the date of your first registration at the commune (not date of first issue on your ID card).

You can't apply in advance because then you wouldn't have completed the 5 years.

tunde4elohim

@kia007 I'll advise that you go for the L card, because you are entitled to a response (positive/negative) within 5 months. However, the B card has no defined period for feedback, it might take months or even years before the government responds and you might not get it at the end.

ChandlerBing

@tunde4elohim what do you mean by first registered in commune? as in first appointment?

BMM996210

@tunde4elohim

The L card verdict of 5 months is no longer being followed. Even if you complete your 5 months there is no auto approval, we still need to wait for an answer from the ministry.

In the previous chats/forums you can read this situation for a lot of people since May 2023.

tunde4elohim

    @tunde4elohim what do you mean by first registered in commune? as in first appointment?        -@ChandlerBing

It's the first date when you officially applied for residency at the commune (could be first appoint for most folks or a subsequent appointment)

tunde4elohim

@maharaji1984

Exactly 5 years after.

Makes sense. I got my L card back in 2022. I submit my application without completing with all conditions knowing that they would most likely approve it since immigration does not have enoght personnel to got through all files. Eventually the 5 months period was reached and they approval came automatically. They saw the loophole

So you mean that although you know that something is not really correct according to the regulations and you still do it because you definitely think it may cheat the misnistry? Quite shameful to me!

Do not tend to be smart bro!

This is permanency, you think they just let random people to be permanent residences?

I definitely sure your files have been screened thoroughly. There are cases where you can still be eligible not at the time of submission but during the 5 months so they never rust and wait for 5 months always.

Do not pretend that they never do it shorter because they are lack of personel. You know things may happen badly during the waiting period that impact the decision so why not just wait till the end.

Also, remember that it can still be revoked (stated by law) if fraudulent have been found or if granted while admission criterias were not met during the assessment by any mistakes. So, do not think that you are smart

Rd Devils hooray

@peterjohn1104

No, it was not fraudulent. I complied with all tjey asked and never submitted any document that was forged or anything like that.

Belgian immigration claimed I meeded 5 years, although I had a blue card from another eu country. As such I meeded 3 years. They are actually doing the fraudulent part which was to deny my rights. Y still applied and the fact that theu were not able to see my file simply was approved as per the rules they temselves put it place...

So it is not about cheating, ot is about knowing the rules and to make sure you jave a strong file. That is it.

@tunde4elohim

Have you applied for L card in exactly 5 years completed or a few weeks in advance?

what commune have you apllied?

ievgenfeldmann

@Família kisuco

Why you would be so stupid and brainless to apply in advance and risk to be rejected?

tunde4elohim

@Família kisuco

You can only apply after you've completed the 5 year stay from the first date of registration at the commune.

In my case, I applied just a few days after I completed the 5 year stay duration (based on I earlier I could get an appointment availbility in my commune).

RD_

Hey everyone! I have an L card and I'm an Indian national. Apologies upfront if it's a stupid question.

  1. Do I need a visa to work in Ireland or just a work permit?
  2. Will my Belgian L card be valid if I leave to Ireland since I'm technically still in the EU

ARMaliq

Unfortunately, Ireland does not recognize EU long-term residence permits. So you’ll need to go through the usual processes for work visa. Your L card remains valid even if you leave EU.

RD_

@ARMaliq

Yeah, it remains valid if I leave EU, but only for 12 months. And if it's more than that, then I need to keep the primary interest in Belgium. Not sure what that means:

You leave the European Union for other reasons, but keep your main interests in Belgium. You must apply within 15 days of your return to the municipality of your place of residence.
