Buying a car in Gambia

Kenjee

Hi,

To be able to move in Gambia, a lot of expatriates think of buying a car, whether new or second-hand.

What are the formalities to buy a vehicle in Gambia: car registration, insurance, etc.?

What are the relevant authorities or organizations to contact?

How long does it take and what are the associated costs?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience,

Kenjee

Many cars are second hand. The most common is the old jeep Cherokee. Diesel cars are much cheaper than petrol cars. They are more popular. Purchasing car would involve you agreeing to price , visiting the police to seal the deal, changing ownership of the car and buying insurance.
For 3500USD , you should a reasonably good car.
I would advise a 4x4 jeep Cherokee as it fares better during the rainy season.
Good luck!
Blessing
