Moving nairobi end 2024 Family from Europe

easterncomfort

Hello, we are a family of 4 with two kids 13/14 and have freely chosen nairobi as our new place we want to live for the next two to three years. We are financially secured, but still search for work at some NGO or other work in the social technical field. We are more interested in helping Kenya than in money. My wife writes books and is good at organizing, I am good at handicrafts and can organize, have a lot of travel experience, am an architect and carpenter by profession and run a hotel in Berlin.

Now we have many little steps to sort out like finding school, visa, finding place to live and so on.

so if anybody needs help with building, designing, technical stuff, solar energy, windenergy, building wells, repairing vehicles lots of things.

We are grateful for tips and contacts

Hello good evening

Welcome to Kenya is an interesting county to be in

Longonot62

Good morning,

Kenya is indeed and interesting country to be in.  However, unless you get a work permit you won't legally be able to do any type of work, including voluntary/unpaid work, so helping Kenya in a practical way may be difficult.

If you are financially secure (with an income of equivalent $24,000 per year) you would be able to apply for a Class K Permit, which allows residence, but would not allow you to work.

Other types of work permits can be difficult to obtain.

Here are the details of the permits and passes available to foreigners:

So even though you are a resident in Class k your cajr worj? so you need two permits if you want to work? what about starting a business??

Longonot62

Work is not permitted with a Class K permit as the reason this permit has been approved is that the applicant has evidenced being able to support themselves from other financial sources.  The definition of 'work' covers paid and voluntary.

You cannot hold two permits simultaneously.

If you want to start a business and work within it, then a Class G Permit is required.  The primary eligibility criterion for the Class G mandates that the investor must demonstrate a commitment to invest at least USD 100,000 in the country.
