Hi Ana
First of all let me Welcome you to India. Can I know are u coming on a short or a very long visit? The money which you need depends entirely upon ur lifestyle.New Delhi being the capital of India, yet the prices of commodities is not high as compared to other cities like Bombay.Delhi is divided into 4 sections viz South Delhi,North Delhi,West Delhi and East Delhi. The cost of living in South Delhi colonies is very high as compared to other parts of Delhi since most of the MNCs n expats are based here.So u will find the rents also high compared to other parts. The roads in this part are better and connectivity to other parts of Delhi is good.South Delhi is also more closer to the international airport. The High Commissions of all the nations are in South Delhi. The next closest cousion to South Delhi wrt the aminities is the West Delhi. Here the rents are less than those in South Delhi along with all other aminities which one can get in South Delhi. Most of the areas of West Delhi are connected by the Metro railway, which is like the tube train.Certain pockets of West Delhi are closer to the International airport.
Just let me know of ur preferences, your stay period and the purpose of your visit.maybe I can help you more.
thanks

Hi Ana,

Yes you should consider staying in West Delhi. It is quite nearby the Central Business District. Especially areas like Patel Nagar, Rajender Nagar, etc.
If you want to stay close to Gurgaon, you should prefer Dwarka to any other place because of its connectivity and rents.

Delhi, is fairly expensive when it comes to rents, especially South Delhi.
West Delhi is much cheaper and a better option when it comes to electricity, water problems, west is better than the other areas.

Consider areas like Punjabi Bagh, Rajouri Garden, Janak Puri, Paschim Vihar which are affluent colonies, and have a few expats already staying here and increasing everyday.

Thanks,
Aki

Hi Everyone,

I am moving to Delhi in Nov for 2 years and am also wondering where to live etc.

My office is on Safdarjung Rd near the racecourse in New Delhi, but I doubt I will be able to afford South Delhi rents on my own. Can you suggest any 'nice' area's that are a bit cheaper on average but where I access to work won't be too difficult?

Thanks,

Brooke

Hi Brooke,

Before you decide on anything, fix upon a budget which you think should be spent on rent. then go ahead with that amount and speak to a broker. he will get you many options and sometimes like all of us, you might be lucky and get a very nice house in a very nice area at a great rent. so keep in touch with friends here and plan up. dont get tense its very easy.
some areas in south delhi have an offshoot which is little less developed and cramped houses. now those pockets you get cheaper rent that the same house in the adjoining posh locality.

have a great wknd.

warmly, arnab

Ive just been browsing this topic and the questions being asked are similar to the questions which I have.
I have already posted a topic regarding my partner and myself coming to India in April for four months as tourists.
Seems as though Delhi is one of the cheaper cities to live in, is that correct? Also for two people - is a budget of 1000AUD per month okay? This would include rent. Thats about 50,000INR per month. Or is that too much, could we budget less? Keep in mind we will be living fairly cheaply.

On a side note, Brooke - I recieved your message regarding these questions I have but cant mail you, your inbox seems full? give me a bell as i would like to keep in contact with you.

Cheers.
