buying vs leasing a car

I am an American and I just recently moved to Johor. We're so spoiled with cheap auto prices in the States.

if anyone can advise the +/- of leasing vs buying a car in Malaysia. Any thought of buying a used car?

Also, is there any american living in Johor area? I would like to build network and close friends while I am on a long term assignment here....

hi henry, welcome to malaysia

imho it depends on your period of stay here. if you're staying for a few months or for a year, rent-a-car should be ok for you. if you're staying longer, then you might want to check out the used cars section. if you're gonna be here for life then you should get a new one

if you're going to get a used car, please bring a mechanic friend to assist you or you might get conned. buying a new one is the best but it'll be expensive. rent-a-car, hmm.... just make sure that you're not the kind of that can't deal will surprises , dont expect too much and never leave anything in the car before you return it
