Looking for a male short-hair kitten

My 9 years old daughter is expecting in her next month birthday, a kitten as a present. Any advice where I can get聽 a domestic kitten, preferably male and with short hair?

I checked with the main pet stores in few malls, but found them too expensive to buy. Moreover, I believe that there are families who may be offering their kittens to a good caring home.

Your advice would be highly appreciated!,,
