Some countries are scary, if you compare them to your own. Could be worse if you live in a Third world country.

Yes, my friend, I am about to retire there and I find that most newcomers "farangs" see things through the eyes of someone who has lived in a city in the Western World. They did very little homework of where they are moving to or visiting. Let's hope they don't have a heart attack if they visit a remote village.
