Public transportation in Bangkok

Armand

Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in Bangkok ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed?
What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in Bangkok?

Thanks in advance for participating!

hmmm that's a tough question to answer
Would probably take a few pages

I think the skytrain is great if you live near a station
I think Taxi's are OK - but if you do not know where you are going or cannot speak basic Thai (you will get ripped off)

The motorcycle taxis are fun for some - but dangerous to say the least. Especially if you have long legs that stick out;)

Personally i have a motorcycle and a car these days...
I really love to get around the city on a motorbike because they are easy to park and fly through traffic.

But again it is very dangerous and not for everyone..
You could also brave getting a bycycle for short distances.
They can fly through traffic too.

I almost use a bit of everything :

buses when I know where they go (from 7 to 15 bahts),funny
taxis when I get lost after taking a bus or when I can't wait (from 35 bahts then up to the distance), comfortable
motorcycle when I'm feeling in a hurry and when I know I'm not so far from the place I want to be (price depend on the distance and on the guy, try to negociate but I'm not good at it these times), btw it's kind of dangerous so I ask if they have a helmet
BTS, MRT, Airport Railink : fast, safe, clean, A/C (price depend on the distance
