Same here.   I'm 80, Vietnam vet, heading for D3 Sai Gon on 29 November for a few weeks.

Looking for a rental apartment for next year.

I just pay $400 per month for Kaiser--I live in NorCal, so very easy for me to get care.

Kaiser has covered me for travel to 50 countries over 50 years.

Once you know the system, you should be able to get care in Vietnam and back-charge it to Kaiser.

I also have evac insurance, since I end up in some truly remote places.

Never used it, thankfully.  Thought about it Bhutan and Cambodia few years ago.

Didn't.

Hit by a scooter in Ha Noi couple of years ago--my Viêt travel partner fixed me up.

She also kept me alive during close call with Covid, as well.

No hospital either time.

Just called Kaiser Advice Nurse and followed her instructions CLOSELY.

Small fractures like ribs, chip fracture thumb (again), nose I just disregard (after a call to Advice Nurse), so any suggestions I give should really be taken with a grain of salt.

Anyway, consider the cost of insurance, compared to the financial disaster you would have with no insurance.

My wife and I have State Farm--agent is a Vietnamese woman.

She was super helpful handling my wife's anxiety about me traveling alone for weeks at a time with only sketchy Vietnamese capability.

Happy to talk further if you want.

My wife just reminded me that TOGETHER our monthly premium for Kaiser is only $140.

So-o-o- cheap.
