Buying a car in Grenada

Kenjee

Hi,

To be able to move in Grenada, a lot of expatriates think of buying a car, whether new or second-hand.

What are the formalities to buy a vehicle in Grenada: car registration, insurance, etc.?

What are the relevant authorities or organizations to contact?

How long does it take and what are the associated costs?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience,

Kenjee

We bought a SUV from doh, it is right across from the Radisson and near the mall with Too Kachi in Grand Anse. We had hooked up with a local police officer who was a friend of a friend. He made sure we got a reasonable price. We bought a Honda CRV and sold it 10 months later (we were only volunteering for 10 months) for a little less than we paid. Vehicles retain their value.

You want a SUV because the roads are rough! Plus you can get anywhere with one. You'll be replacing your tires every 6 months, just budget for it. Insurance was reasonable and you need it, we were sandwiched in a 3 vehicle collision. SUV saved us for sure and we didn't have to pay for repairs.
