...on the Facebook group "Moving to Bulgaria". Not for the faint-hearted or those intending to leave their property unoccupied for any length of time.... 😱

That's why everyone needs COT and a tall walls.

Many of my neighbours here in our suburb of Sofia have SOT, high walls and/or metal fences; they also have their own CCTV systems.  They regularly post video clips of hooded/masked "nocturnal visitors" who've been inside their houses while the family was asleep, often truncated when the expensive cameras were added to the bags of swag.  SOT employees usually turn up too late/not at all, and are rumoured to themselves moonlight as burglars - the security companies aren't known to be particularly good payers.

More to the point, if you haven't got some very serious UPS back-ups, it's too easy for tea-leaves  to simply turn off the power to the whole house from the outside and then rob you at their leisure.  Your best protection is not to have too regular habits, to have bars on accessible windows and high security steel entrance doors.  Decent insurance is also vital.  Most of all, just don't leave your property empty for any length of time once you have anything of value in there...

Luckily us folk in the provinces dont have anything of value in our houses anyway.

That's all comparative: when you have people who'll steal the electricity cables out of your ceilings, the windows out of your walls, and the sink and taps out of your bathroom, then we ALL have something worth stealing... 😲

I know this happens in bg and is terrible when it does, but I couldn't help giggle at this post. In the city in UK its the same but our approach is different. If the bungle buggarz pick your property, they might think again if your the person who may or may not choose to bury them in the garden for their trespass. Hypothetically speaking of course 🤣
