I live in Varna on about 750 euros a month. My rent eats a little less than half that amount, and electric just about killed me this winter. It is possible, but not the way you want to live.

Keep your rental expenses down and try to find a rental with central heating in Sofia so you don't have to contend with 300 +/- leva electric bills in the winter.

Food and clothing are expensive and on par for what I paid in NY. I was aware of all this before I moved here and economizing is the rule of thumb.

Try this site - it is purely rentals and gives the prices clearly:

There are also some sites that have private classified ads, but you need to understand some Bulgarian.
