It's awesome. The people are so nice and welcoming, the scenery fantastic with brilliant beaches, and the culture is amazing. So many opportunities to enjoy the Breton lifestyle.

Sure the weather isn't as warm as further south but that suits me fine we get plenty of sunshine with plenty of opportunity for al fresco living.

Well Brittany’s capital Rennes has been rated the best place in France for expats to live and work, many times:


Yet it depends. Brittany is 3.3 million people in a state of 27208 km²: quiet, very green, very friendly, almost no crimes, but few things to do and one main street towns.

Rennes has a nice metro, excellent transport overall, nice buildings. It lacks those many things to do which Paris or other big cities have.  There are 3-4  big to very big supermarkets and a lot of branches of major chains. Yet, you may not get all exotic or foreign goods  if you into them and may order online from Paris or elsewhere.

It is not cheap and there is no poverty (poverty is in some eastern, northern and southern parts of France, Western part is quite OK). Anyway, French minimum wage per hour is 10.64 Euros (about 12 dollars) and France has excellent social security. So poverty is actually tolerable. French average wage per hour is 2-3 dollars higher than the wage in the USA (because wage does not count the super rich in the USA, PCI does). Air and water are very clean. Parks are numerous. It looks something like heaven. Not dirty anywhere, unlike Paris or some English cities.
The sea coast is near everywhere and coastal towns have some good things including a big aquarium of marine life, sharks and all. There are some zoos not far, but not near Rennes.
Overall, very nice, but a bit quiet. Brittany has done the highest percent vaccinations for Covid by all criteria, including the third or booster dose. Due to many public, cheap universities, the level of education and awareness seems to be high in the local population. However, many people speak only French, even some youngsters.
