Canadian wanting to spend a year in Ireland

janet119

I am 53 yr old woman. I am Canadian, but currently living in Ecuador. I am interested in spending about a year in Ireland.
I prefer a smaller town rather than big city. I should mention I am retired and not looking for work,
Is there any where on-line to look at rentals??

Hi Janet,

Check daft.ie for accommodation all over Ireland.
The west coast of Ireland is beautiful. Check counties Mayo, Connemara, Kerry, Donegal and the Beara Peninsula if you're looking for beauty and peace and quiet.
You'll probably need a car if you choose to live in the countryside as the weather can be truly miserable and public transport is terrible or non-existent in some parts of the country.
Btw there's no "big cities" in Ireland. Even Dublin feels like a village sometimes!

Good luck!

Hello Janet,

While a Canadian citizen does not require a visa to enter Ireland, as a tourist you are only permitted to remain in the country for 90 days. If you wish to remain in the country longer than that you will require an Irish "D" type visa which you must apply for before travel. See "Length of Stay" in the following link:
