Actually the package was a combined one for libya / malta where the hospital has its branches.
Surely that needs to be increased.

Could you please let me know what would be a decent salary for a specialist doctor in Libya?

You could probably earn a lot more in the UK but it sounds ok for Malta.
Who is paying the taxes ? At that salary level the income tax is 35%.
5000€ - 35% = approx.3500€ .Still sounds ok as many expenses are included.
Don't know how much the 40 Dinars are but that might not be enough if they post you to Libya frequently.

its only 35% marginal rate  - the av rate will be lower. However, there is SS contribs to pay, and you may well me taxed on your benefits.

The OP said cash in hand - I presume that means the salary quoted is thus a net not a gross figure

40 Libyan dinars is around 68 Euros

Spend it wisely

but 5 - 6.000 Euro's a month sounds good and im sure you will save some

They said the posting is for Malta Hospital.

It may be that you'd get paid more for your specialist skills elsewhere but I'm pretty sure you'll struggle to waste all your wages every month! Saving should be easy.

With your residence provided (free I am assuming and including your bills), all travel expenses paid....

Unless you plan on living a Hollywood lifestyle you should be able save plenty on that salary.  If not, hey,  its only a year...

Hi Dr.jhasan,

basically you would have to register with the Medical Council of Malta. Upon presentation and acceptance of your medical degrees/diplomas you might also be required to pass a language and/or proficiency test. With a positive result you would receive a temporary licence to practice in a state hospital for 1 year.



This would have to be done by your future employer as it would also involve the application for a work permit for a TCN (third-country national).

Hi ismail,

see post #15 as this applies to you too.

If you are a MD you can apply for a job with one of the hospitals (state or private) in Malta.

If you are accepted ( will depend on your qualifications and experience) your future employer will apply for the registration,work permit and residency.

Are you a specialist in laparoscopic surgury or still training to be one?

Why are you looking at Malta? Many other EU countries like the UK and Germany are urgently looking for doctors.

I am British, my primary medical qualifications are obtained from non - EU countries ( North Africa) and I had master in medicine from the UK (academic degree). My question is,  am I entitled to register with medical council in Malta without taking Medical Council Malta Statutory Examinations.

The Health Care Professions Act 2003, Chap 464, Articles 11(1)(c) and 12(1)(c), stipulates that the Medical Council Malta may require a Medical or a Dental Professional whose primary degree is not from Malta or from an EU-Member State 'to sit for and pass a professional and linguistic proficiency test' (Medical Council Malta Statutory Examination) in order to be granted registration in Malta.

Why not contact the hospitals there's more chance of getting an answer to your question.

I read in the paper today that there is a shortage of doctors in the U.K., don't know about the situation here.

I have registration at iris medical council ( Republic of Ireland ) not at GMC ,in order to do registration at GMC I have to do I LET'S ,score total  7.5  and each 7 ,its not easy to get.
As I know if you hold full registration at any European medical council and you are European citizen you can do registration at Malta medical council ...
That's why I am looking for job chances at Malta ..and also start looking for job at Republic of Ireland since 3 months .....no jobs until now ...
