Hello, I am new to Expat forum. I have lived in Spain for a while and have recently had a very difficult, horrible experience with an estate agent. I was hoping to warn other newbies to Spain of the tricks that can be pulled on the unwary

Matthew (Mateo)

Hello - My name is Matthew (Mateo)

I currently live in Florida, USA.  My family, (myself, my husband, our son, and our dog if possible) are looking to immigrate to Spain or Portugal.  My husband and I are retired.  Our son is 22 years old.  We have been to Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) on vacation and will be going to Portugal for the first time soon.

We would love the opportunity to to connect with folks who have made this move and learn more about the process as well as that kinds of things we should be aware of.

I know a little Spanish, but my husband and son don't know any so we are all concerned about having to learn a new language (especially my husband who thinks he is too old to learn a new language).

Hello, my name is Bob, and I’m new to the expat forum. I have been living in Spain for almost two years now. I’m originally from the Netherlands, where I lived and worked my entire life. I joined this forum to connect with people who have recently moved to Spain or are considering making the move.

@Matthew (Mateo)

Hello Mateo

My name is James and my husband and I planning to move to Spain in the fall from South Florida (Fort Lauderdale.).  We have done a few trips to Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol.  Our destination will be Torremolinos for a few different reasons.  (1) proximity to an airport and major train station  (2) climate (3) gay vibe and (4) a large expat community ( which usually means more English is spoken.) I am fluent in Spanish but my husband doesn't speak any.  If you PM me, I would be glad to share a few of the things we have learned.  We are not experts, and are in the process the same as you and  your family, but we might be a step or two ahead, and we can share with each other what we have learned along the way.

seamus452

@bobvogelaar4

Where in Spain have you been living, Bob?

Hi. I'm Leigh. My husband, David, and I are coming to Spain in mid-October partly as a vacation/partly to do reconnaissance to see which city might be the right one for us to relocate to before the US becomes Gilead from THE HANDMAIDS TALE.

I'm 58, and he's 50. Neither of us are circuit queens, and neither wants to retire. We want to find an affordable city and a place where we can reestablish our careers or maybe start new ones. We enjoy being in a metropolitan area but don't want to deal with a daily 24/7 onslaught of tourists necessarily.

We are planning to visit Bilbao, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Malaga, Toledo, and Madrid.

We'd love to hear from or meet others who are either in the same proverbial boat as us (considering expat life in Spain) or those who are actively enjoying expat life there.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice :)

Leigh

Hello, Greetings to all!

My husband and I are in Torremolinos right now. Leaving April 30 to head home to the USA (South Florida).

We'll be back in October for an extended stay, and would like to introduce ourselves to the forum.

Our long term plan is to retire here.  This site has been extremely useful

Cheers,

Oliver Koenig

Hi everyone,

I'm Oliver – a German architect based in the Murcia region, working mainly on renovations, single-family homes, and helping clients navigate Spanish building laws, permits and property issues.

After reading many great posts here, I noticed how often building-related questions come up – from damp walls and cracks to permits, budgets, or dealing with builders. I’d be happy to offer advice or share my experience whenever I can.

I really enjoy the exchange with fellow expats – so feel free to reach out or tag me if you think I can help.

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Best,

Oliver

Hi everyone! I’m a former Auxiliar de Conversación aka Language Assistant, now working as a psychologist supporting expats and those preparing to relocate. Having moved countries 3+ times myself, I know how challenging (yet exciting!) the experience can be, and I'm here as a professional as well as a fellow expat.

If you or someone you know could benefit, feel free to reach out or pass along my contact! Looking forward to connecting with you all here smile.png

Vera Charvatova

Hi everyone,

I´m Vera from the Czech Republic. I moved to Madrid not long ago and I´m mainly looking for some friends to go hiking with or to ride a bike with 😊. I work as an English teacher and can get discounts for Spanish classes as well. So if anyone is interested in language learning, I can also help with that 😀.

Best wishes,

Vera
