Getting married in Israel

Armand

Hi all,

We invite all the ones who got married in Israel or who are about to get married in Israel to participate in this thread :)

What are the formalities to get married in Israel? Is it the same for a couple of foreigners of for a mixed couple (between a foreigner and a native of Israel)?

Are the procedures complicated?

How long does it take to carry out all the formalities?

Thank you in advance for participating,

Armand

It is difficult to get married in Israel if you are not of the Jewish faith, even if you are of the Jewish faith and a foreigner you still have to prove that you are Jewish from both sides of the family with marriage certificate and birth certificates from your parents before you can be considered to be of the Jewish faith, also there are varients of that too, if your parents were married say in a conservative synagogue in another country then they will consider it.  A lot of couples even of the Jewish faith today are getting married quickly by going over to Cyprus as it is quick and easy.  There are foreigner weddings here but these people tend to have them attached to a church or congregation.
