Int'l Driver's License

ibdegen

I am from California. I have been in Brazil long enough to get a Brazilian License and for my California license to expire. The problem is that I am going to the US next month and will need to rent a car. I would appreciate any advice you can give me, such as how to obtain a Brazilian Int'l Driver's License and whether I need to be prepared for trouble with the US rental agencies. Thanks in advance.

I found mine at the local DETRAN. There is a section for international licenses here in Paraiba and one has to schedule (before visiting) via the DETRAN website to start the process for obtaining a "PID - Permissão Internacional para Dirigir" and I can't remember the cost but I don't recall it being outrageous.

Find your state's DETRAN site.

I have rented in the US on both a Brazilian standard license, and a Brazilian international one. No problems either time.

If you want the international one, just apply on your local DETRAN website, it costs about R$250, and only takes a few days to arrive at your chosen collection point.
