I was in Chicago, which is having a horrible winter as you may know, for Christmas and the first week of January, and was having some joint pain. I've been here (Quito) for three weeks now and there has been no pain at all.

I don't know if the climate would do much good for anyone with more severe problems -- my joint pain is nothing major and only comes on in circumstance like Chicago has been having. Also, it may be that anything is better than Chicago right now. So take my opinions for what they're worth.

Everything is relative and in your case depending upon the level of pain you have Ecuador is not a panacea for your pain.
Probably more shots & pills is the alternative as it currently probably is.
There are no shortcuts to avoid prolonged pain, I know since both knees are titanium.

I only have one titanium knee, but have had several disc repair surgeries.  I'm on track to start Enbrel shortly, but I cut my leg & it's not healed yet.  We live in Texas & the weather changes are my worst problem. We lived in Singapore years ago, and I thrived there.  That was years ago, however.

I'm currently living in Texas , and we're planning on visiting in April before making final decisions.  I'm a retired teacher, and my husband is an engineering consultant for an oil company.  We're looking at retiring in Ecuador.  We've previously lived abroad and loved it.

I've struggled with joint pain for years, but I'm lucky to have doctors who work with me.  I'm doing fairly well now, and I'm waiting for a cut to heal before I start Enbrel.  I'm doing the physical things, too, to be healthier, so I don't anticipate any big issues, but I want to be as knowledgeable as possible.
