Buses in Luxembourg

Luxembourg City's bus service is categorized into two main groups: classic routes and special services. The classic routes encompass covering the city.

Starting in 2020, all of Luxembourg has offered free access to all public transportation, including buses, trains, and the recently introduced tram system.

In addition to the regular services, there are free shuttle buses, night buses, and on-demand bus services that run on a fixed schedule or for specific occasions. One notable service is the , which provides free bus rides every Friday and Saturday from 9:30 pm to 3:30 am.

School transportation in Luxembourg

is managed by both the City of Luxembourg and private companies. The city handles transportation from various neighborhoods to high school campuses located in Limpertsberg, ³Ò±ð±ð²õ²õ±ð°ì²Ôä±è±è³¦³ó±ð²Ô, and Ecole Européenne I Kirchberg. Seven of these routes serve high schools and technical colleges, while eight routes are dedicated to the European School. Students from the European School II in Bertrange are transported by the Association de Transport Scolaire de l'École Européenne.

Transport to post-basic schools is organized by the Transport Department of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, grouped on lines 950 to 981.

Call-a-Bus: A special bus service in Luxembourg

The offers the convenience of scheduling your bus ride for a specific time. It operates from Monday to Saturday, from 9 am to midnight, and from 7 am to midnight for individuals with reduced mobility. Reservations must be made at least 45 minutes in advance but no more than three weeks ahead. To book your ride, call 4796-4797 to secure your spot. The fare is budget-friendly, with a maximum cost of 6 euros per trip.

Cycling in Luxembourg City

Luxembourg City has been carefully designed to make cycling a convenient mode of transportation. The city features a well-organized network of cycling lanes, greatly facilitating travel for cyclists. Additionally, numerous free parking spots are designated for bicycles and motorcycles. The program offers electricÌýbike for self-service rental, with stations accessible around the city 24/7. You can even opt for an annual subscription, which costs €18.ÌýFor tourists, a shorter-term option is available, with a €2 day pass or €5 for three days. The first half-hour of using vel'oh bikes is free, and each additional hour is charged at €1, on top of the initial subscription price. Given the small size of the capital, it's rare for a bike trip to exceed 30 minutes.

Taxis in Luxembourg

As in the rest of Luxembourg, the capital city provides the option of traveling by taxi. You can arrange a taxi by phone or find one at designated taxi stands. It's essential to note that, just like in other places, you cannot hail a taxi on the street to request its services.ÌýLet's also note that taxi prices are very high, generally between €3.50 and €4.00 per kilometer. The Uber app has been available in Luxembourg City since June 2024, but only as part of a partnership with Luxembourgish taxis. It does not allow private individuals to drive, so the rates are far from being as advantageous as in other cities where the app is available.

Luxembourg tramway network

The is a relatively recent project, inaugurated in December 2017, making it one of the newest streetcar systems in Europe, and it's free. This streetcar section connects Luxexpo to the Luxembourg StadiumÌýand serves 24 stations.ÌýIn 2025, the tram line is expected to be extended to Findel Airport. Other tramway extension projects are planned for the coming years.

Exploring Luxembourg on Foot

The capital of Luxembourg is also very pleasant to explore on foot. The historic center is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the city is interspersed with numerous parks as well as a forest. It's possible to walk around without ever leaving a green space! Moreover, the city center is entirely pedestrian. This makes it easy and quite enjoyable to get around Luxembourg on foot. are regularly organized by the city hall.
