@Drambuie Nationwide also let you keep an account. And if Halifax do, then presumably (but not necessarily!) Bank of Scotland would too, since they're part of the same group. Read More

In addition to all the points made by Toon, also bear in mind:1. If you tell your UK bank (or they find out) that you are Cyprus tax-resident, they may require you to close the account. Some do, some don't; check their terms and conditions! 2. Even ... Read More

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this! All "government" pensions, e.g. civil service, local government, NHS, Armed Forces, etc. will be liable to UK tax, but the State Pension, despite its name, is technically NOT a pension, it's a social ... Read More

@timhuntington As Toon says, if you're resident in Cyprus for more than 183 days per year (as presumably you are since you say that you spend "the majority" of the year in Cyprus) then you should automatically be Cyprus tax-resident.You would still ... Read More

Visa documents. Driving me mad! by susangoldsworthy5

Hi all, hope you don't mind me asking some simple questions on the visa. Just spent the last 90 minutes on the internet trying to find out the documentation needed. I actually know what I need, Criminal check, marriage licence, bank account ect the ...

Peter Ty

I think that they'll only accept an ACRO police check document that's less then 6 months old, so don't apply for it too early - but still allow enough time to get it and get it apostilled! Read More

Prudential pension in UK by lshill

My husband has a pru pension in the UK. They have told him he has to remove it by August this year. They don’t provide options but told us we had to pay an IFA to do this at a cost of 2%. Now the IFA is struggling because my husband ...

@lshill Does he mean that he wants to transfer it to an overseas pension? There used to be an option to transfer a UK pension into a QROPS (Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme), but that now incurs a 25% charge because the exemption from ... Read More

It depends on whether that is "3 months left until 10 years from the issue date": that's not always the same as the expiry date!(If you renewed your passport you may have had the unexpired months from the old one added on to the new one, but many ... Read More

@Gordon76 Toon is right:You can opt to either:a) Have the first €19,500 tax-free, and pay 20% on anything over that; ORb) Have €3,250 tax-free, and pay 5% on anything over that (for income from foreign pensions only). If you do the maths, ... Read More

If you are resident in Cyprus and registered with GESY, you should be able to get a Cyprus EHIC card which entitles you to NHS treatment when you visit the UK (just like a UK visitor to Cyprus can use a UK-issued EHIC or GHIC card in Cyprus). Read More
