@Drambuie Nationwide also let you keep an account. And if Halifax do, then presumably (but not necessarily!) Bank of Scotland would too, since they're part of the same group. Read More

In addition to all the points made by Toon, also bear in mind:1. If you tell your UK bank (or they find out) that you are Cyprus tax-resident, they may require you to close the account. Some do, some don't; check their terms and conditions! 2. Even ... Read More

Investment and moving to Cyprus by RW60
I am in the process of planning to retire to Cyprus in 3 years time. I have just returned from a fact finding trip and generally feel comfortable with most aspects of the move and besides which I have 3 years to get to fine tune and get to grips ...

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this! All "government" pensions, e.g. civil service, local government, NHS, Armed Forces, etc. will be liable to UK tax, but the State Pension, despite its name, is technically NOT a pension, it's a social ... Read More

I think that they'll only accept an ACRO police check document that's less then 6 months old, so don't apply for it too early - but still allow enough time to get it and get it apostilled! Read More

The reason why all documents have to be apostilled is that, no matter how "official" it may look, you can't expect foreign governments to know the difference between a genuine document and a good fake copy, whereas the apostille mark is ... Read More

Prudential pension in UK by lshill
My husband has a pru pension in the UK. They have told him he has to remove it by August this year. They don’t provide options but told us we had to pay an IFA to do this at a cost of 2%. Now the IFA is struggling because my husband ...

@lshill Does he mean that he wants to transfer it to an overseas pension? There used to be an option to transfer a UK pension into a QROPS (Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme), but that now incurs a 25% charge because the exemption from ... Read More

It depends on whether that is "3 months left until 10 years from the issue date": that's not always the same as the expiry date!(If you renewed your passport you may have had the unexpired months from the old one added on to the new one, but many ... Read More

@Gordon76 Toon is right:You can opt to either:a) Have the first €19,500 tax-free, and pay 20% on anything over that; ORb) Have €3,250 tax-free, and pay 5% on anything over that (for income from foreign pensions only). If you do the maths, ... Read More

@cydreaming HSBC might try to persuade you to switch to an "Expat" account (based on Jersey) - but I think there's a fairly high minimum income requirement for that account!https://www.expat.hsbc.com/international-banking/products/bank-account Read More

@whiteeddie As I understand it, if you are no longer tax-resident in the UK then you can keep any existing ISAs, and any dividends or interest or capital gains accruing will continue to be tax free, but you *can't* add any further funds to them, ... Read More
