Agali - Where in Germany are you? Have you checked in the larger supermarkets? Our Real has a big French section with canned snails and foie gras - and the German senf section includes Maille mustard. I'm sure it's not as great as the stuff in ... Read More

Cosmopolitan cities by Julien

Which are the most cosmopolitan cities in your opinion? From what I've seen in my short life, n°1 is New York In Europe I think London is the most cosmopolitan place (Barcelona is interesting too)... Which other cities would you add to the list?

Christina Geyer

I found Montpelier to be very diverse, but I only spent a few days there, so I don't know if it is "cosmopolitan" (i.e., accepting of foreigners). Read More

What will motivate you to be an expatriate in a developing countries? by miaaaaa

 really needs your help... i am doing a project on concerning this issue!

Christina Geyer

I would expatriate to a developing country if I had a job there, it is moderately safe, and there is decent healthcare. I would do it in order to learn about another culture. Read More

Read More

Strange sayings by Sinbad

I just posted a reply to someone in which I used a very idiomatic expression. I don't think the guy I was replying to was a native English speaker and so he may have had trouble understanding what I meant. That made me think, are there any strange ...

What US product do you miss the most? by kassyd2007

Hi there! I have a store on eBay & am looking to expand internationally. No, I'm not looking for sales just ideas! I thought the expat community would be a great place to start. Actually, my sister, who is an expat in the UK, gave me the ...

Christina Geyer

A miss the slightly more upscale products, like Ghiradelli brownie mix instead of Betty Crocker, or IBC Cream Soda rather than generic. Most expat stores over here carry the cheap stuff. And I wouldn't bother with US chocolate, European stuff is ... Read More

Reverse Culture Shock by Guesposter58

Hmm. All last week I was back in the UK (mixing some work, with a short break). The last time I was back there was in November last year, and also the previous August. One thing I noticed this time though was I seemed to be suffering more from ...

I've been away from the US for 4 years now and I was pretty shocked to find I had reverse culture shock on my July trip back. And it's strange because I was there in March and it was fine. I don't feel like I really belong in the US or in Germany ... Read More

Flirting across cultural lines by CLGinDE

After reading this (http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,419712,00.html) SpiegelOnline article on Flirting with Germans, I decided to start a topic. (1) Where have you found it easiest to "flirt" with the locals? :par: (2) What are ...
