Finding a place to live is a priority when settling in Slovenia. Your experience will be of a great help for the members who want to settle in Slovenia.

Therefore, we have prepared some questions for you:

Which kinds of accommodation are available in Slovenia?

In Ljubljana you can find all kinds of accommodation, starting from bed in shared room 80-100 eu
throught apartments 2 bedroom 350-550 eu (+ all expenses)
to houses  starting from 1000 eu

Is it hard to find a flat or a house for rent in Slovenia?
If you need a legal contract, look for something renovated qute recently with furnish younger than 15 years and don't speak slovene - it is hard. Many people here don't report additional income from renting apartments, so they don't want to rent it with contract. In Ljubljana there are many students who agree on any conditions. Many people don't speak any English, so they don't even want to speak to you.

How to find a home in Slovenia: classifieds, real estate portals, real estate agencies?
Few websites:
I can recommend (English!):

And Slovene:

And for students:

Many apartments are advertised by real estate agencies, so you have to remember that you will have to pay them at least one month rent.

How much is the rental for a house, an apartment?

Studio apartments starting form 100eu (+ all expenses), but often it is basement in someones house. If you want normal apartment - be realistic 300+eu for studio. Houses 1000+eu.

What are the formalities or the required documents for renting an accommodation?
Many people will refuse to write any contract with you, but if you work with the agency, they will take care of it. Best it is if you are employed somewhere and can show your contract, otherwise you will be asked to give about 2 months warranty.
They will need your passport/id and after that you shoud report your stay at Upravna Enota

Which advice would you give?
If you are a student on exchange, ask students office for foreginers, many people givs them their offers, if they don't mind having people speaking English only.
Ask some Slovene person to help you (at least call and ask details) because many people will refuse to speak to you if you don't speak Slovenian.

Hope that helps.

Ok I have a question, so I was about to move to Maribor whit the erasmus programme, I got a house with my friend, signed a contrat and all, but this month I was said I could not go.
The thing is my friend is going, and cannot pay the house by himself, and when he talked with the landlord, she said that he could not put anyone in the room that was destined for me because if someone was to inspect the house she would pay a really high bill.

Hi! My wife is about to do erasmus studies in Maribor next spring. We'd need to rent a flat or house for our family (2 adults and 3 kids). So we need at least 2 bedrooms.

I've been browsing for some rental agency websites as well as airbnb. Any good tips how to find a place? I'm not willing to pay one month rent (~1000€) for agency fees as we're only staying 5-6 months.
