Which health insurance in Malta?

blackcatsrunfast

Hello people,

In January I will move from Belgium to Malta.

I will no longer have health insurance from Belgium.

In Malta I won’t work nor will I be retired, so no entitlement of any kind to the Malta National Health Service.

I will have to purchase my own health insurance.

I took a look first at insurances for expats but it’s like 3600 € a year.

I have a quote from Atlas Insurance in Malta, the private hospital plan and it’s only 1113 €.

Apart from the fact I will be insured only in Malta, and I’m fine with that, what’s the catch?

Ty

The catch could be in the scope of cover i.e what is and isn't covered and/or in the limits. Compare the scheme you're considering with the next one up and see what the differences are. Also, keep in mind that certain types of procedures can only be done at the public hospital and I don't know if it would be possible for you or your insurer to pay to use the public hospital should the need arise.

Ok ty.

Yeah afaik it seems in Malta local health insurance in-patient treatment coverage isn’t the same depending if the care is provided in a supporting hospital or not.
