Planning 2 week holiday in portugal

not sure how much cash to have with me.

does visa work there.

any help is appreciated

@bill4221958 Visa has worked in Portugal since the '70s, like everywhere else in Europe  However, some very small businesses, esp in rural areas, may not take it or charge you a fee.


Portugal is very cheap and there are loads of professional online resources to help you with your budget. Search "Portugal trip daily budget" or the like.

You're kidding, right? You can use international payment systems everywhere, even near the Ngorongoro Crater, in those resorts in the middle of nowhere...

You can open a EUR account at Wise. Then transfer money from USD (from your US bank account) to EUR (Wise account), with very good exchange rates. And then you can use your Wise debit card in the Portuguese Multibanco ATM & POS network or in other Eurozone networks, without needing to carry USD cash.


You can also use your US card in USD in the Multibanco network, although with much less favourable exchange rates and with additional fees from international payment systems...
