Advice Please 😀 living in Charente

Happy New Year to everyone.

Myself, my husband and children are excited to be heading out to live in the Charente this year!!

My question is what qualifications are recognised in France for a counsellor? I want to continue counselling when we move out but when I try to find out qualifications I am only coming up with it being unregulated.

I want to ensure I have a good chance of passing through the visa process first time.

Also, if I'm going to be self employed when do I need to register? I understand there maybe an alternative route if my earnings are low enough as a small business? Is that correct ?

Finally,we will be renting first and need a 2/3 bedroom house out of town ideally about 1hour from Limoges from sept/Oct 2023 until march 2024 if anyone knows of anything or any good rental sites I can look on? 😊

Hello Lisam2,

May I ask in what field do you offer counselling services ?

To start working as a self employed/auto-entrepreneur, maybe you could check formalities here : https://www.economie.gouv.fr/cedef/resi … industrie.

For accommodation, feel free to drop an advert in the Housing in France section of the website, you might get some offers.

All the best

Happy New Year, and congratulations on your move to Charente! It sounds like an exciting new chapter for you and your family. Regarding your qualifications as a counsellor in France, the field isn’t highly regulated, but there are European certifications that are recognized, like those from the European Association for Counselling (EAC). You might also look into being recognized as a psychotherapist, depending on your background. It would be a good idea to check with local professional bodies or the French consulate to make sure your qualifications will work for the visa process.

As for self-employment, if you’re going to work as a counsellor independently, you would need to register as a micro-entrepreneur. This is a simplified form of self-employment where you can pay taxes and social security based on your income. The good news is that if your earnings are below a certain threshold, you may benefit from a simplified system. You can easily register on official French government websites.

For renting a house near Limoges, there are plenty of rental sites like Le Bon Coin, SeLoger, and Pap.fr. You might also find helpful listings in local Facebook groups or by reaching out to estate agents in the area.

I hope this information is helpful, and best of luck with your move!
