Hello Julien,
Thank you for the welcome. Let me introduce myself. My name is Connie. I grew up in Ohio, went to Bowling Green State University and graduated with a Communications degree specializing in Advertising and PR. After graduation I worked in New York City for almost 3 years with a PR and Advertising agency on 23rd street, corner of Madison Ave., and lived in Forest Hills, Queens. I commuted into the city every day on the subway, just like you see in the movies. I met my Italian husband while on vacation in Italy in June of 1985, then I moved to Italy in December 1987, married him in February 1988 and have lived here ever since. I have two daughters who were born and raised in Florence and one is already a mother, which makes me a grandmother. My granddaughter will be 5 years old in May. I work for an American university in Florence, Italy and have been since July 1989. I love helping American students enjoy and appreciate Florence and all of Italy, while they study abroad. I have dual citizenship, speak fluent Italian and travel with two passports wherever I go. I love Italy. I am perhaps more Italian now than American but luckily I have to speak both languages at work so am able to hang on to my origins!
Thank you for sharing your story and surely you have sacrificed a lot which you are doing right now and it was a very difficult decision to sacrifice at that time. May Allah give you more happiness.
@Claudio90
Hi, Claudio,
Nice to see someone on here who's not seeking a job.
My wife and I are looking into obtaining a entry/long-term visa without paying a lawyer. We contacted one and they want E6500 for their services.
We obtained residency permits in Portugal a few years back but that took a lot of time and effort. If we're going to have to do that all over again just to give the paperwork to a lawyer we'll just do it ourselves.
I monitor this website and "thelocal.it" for insight into moving to Italia as we are about a year away from attempting the move. Looking into cheap property and maybe buy a house. Any further insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Ciao,
Kerry and Joyce Hayes
Ciao all!
We are looking to move to Italy in about a year. We are trying to figure out the best way to obtain a visa and residence permit. We are currently in Mexico. Look forward to discussions about the visa, buying property, and other aspects of life in Italy.

At the top of the page, have a look at Discover it gives a lot of information.
@funkyfreshg
Can you answer a question for me?
What did you have to show for "residence"? A lease contract? Valid for how long? Are hotel reservations adequate for this requirement?
Thanks,
Kerry

@Julien hi everyone I'm Marcie from Ghana, I just joined this wonderful family yesterday, it is my dream to migrate with my family to Italy, I hope to learn more from this great platform to help me achieve my goal.
Hi all,
My name is Ash, I’m Canadian married to an Italian with 2 dual citizen small humans & a dog. We’re preparing to move to Lazio in the fall. It’s a logistical nightmare to try to sell a home, ship furniture & a car & navigate the immigration process for myself (my past tense language skills are holding me up from my B1). Any advice on home purchasing, license transfer, driving on foreign plates or general issues you’ve encountered I may not have thought of would be a great help.
Hello Aagianni9,
Welcome on board !
I can see that you already have a thread on the forum on driver's license : /forum/viewtopic.php?id=1027551
I would suggest that you open another thread on the Italy forum to expose and provide some context on other questions you have : Purchasing home for instance.
The Living in Italy guide for expats can also be useful to you.
If you are good at writing Italiano, why not create a topic on the Forum Italia (in Italian) ?
All the very best
Bhavna
As you say trying to pack, organize shipping, per passports and finding a home over such a long distance is extremely difficult. I would suggest a relocation company who can organize everything for you, saving your energy and sanity for sorting what you absolutely must have and what you can sell, give away or store and what you can replace here in Italy like your electrical items which won't work with the 220-240v supply we use.
Good luck
@Julien
Hi everybody,
My name is Jansen Machado and I have been in Italy since the beginning of April of 2023 as an American tourist. My goal for 2023 is a dream I have had for many years: to become a European Citizen!
Coming to Italy was the first step, and I know there's many more to come, and since information is power and connections are doors to opportunities, I made an account in this website in the hopes to find both.
I already have uploaded my CV here, since my primary focus is on finding a job here in Turin -- however, I would relocate to any European country if that would allow me to have a job and take steps towards my main goal.
I am currently working on getting any and all types of documents here in Turin, and learn Italian to increase my chances.
Any and all information and assistance is welcome!
Regards,
Jansen
