Paying extra energy bill

Post new topic

lokesjune

Hi,

im newly moved to Amsterdam since last year Aug’22. The house contract for the energy ( including gas and electricity utilities) set at €200/month. However, beginning from Oct’22, the landlord has requested us to pay extra €100 without showing the energy bill to us until now despite we keep requesting for it. As I know, from Jan this year, the Dutch government has introduced a price cap for electricity and gas. I am pretty sure that we did not overuse the energies.

I would like to know if there’s any way I can seek help or at least to clarify the usage without paying extra which is not stated in the contract as well.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

If your contract is inclusive of energy costs and your landlord has incurred extra energy costs, then it's reasonable to pass them on to the hirer.  It is also reasonable that evidence be provided to support the landlord's claim.  Try speaking to the Huurcommissie; this will take you to their contact details on their website.

I hope this helps.

I doubt the landlord is trying to con you as energy prices across Europe have increased to silly amounts if your contract is inclusive.

@Cynic thanks for the reply. I will talk to the landlord again before bringing it to next step.

@SimCityAT understood. Just want to clarify as I have been seeking help from the neighbours and their advice was to contact the landlord and get the proof. Thanks for your reply 🙂
