Formalities to bring your pet in England

Post new topic

Julien

Hi all,

What are the formalities and paperwork required to bring your pet in England?

How long do formalities & paperwork usually take in England?

What are the relevant authorities to contact?

Which vaccines are compulsory? Do your pets have to go in quarantine at their arrival in England?

Which advice would you give to the ones who would like to move with a dog, a cat or any other pet?

Thanks in advance for participating :)

This depends on which country you are coming from.  If you are coming from an EU country a the information below will apply:

Currently, the process is very long (takes approx 8 months) and many people find it difficult.  Basically, your pet needs to be microchipped, then have a rabies vaccination, then a blood draw, then you wait for results of blood draw (titer test), then you wait 6 months from the date of the blood draw before you pet can enter the UK, and a tick and tapework treatment is required 24-48 hours before entry.  The paperwork is detailed and pedantic, but can absolutely be done without the help of a "pet transportation" company if you have good communication with your bet.

However, beginning January 2012, the process will become much shorter - animals coming from EU or approved non-EU countries will not have to have a blood test and will only have to wait 21 days following the rabies vaccine before the animal can enter the UK.  Animals coming from countries NOT on the approved list, will still require the blood test and will need to wait three months before entry to the UK.
