Writing an affidavit

Post new topic

Yoyagi

Hi there,

I am a Norwegian who will apply for a residence permit this year. I read on the SEF website that i must provide a written affidavit declaring that i have sufficient funds for me and my family.

I am wondering if anyone knows how to write this affidavit and if it must be signed by a notary?

Best regards,

Marius

Hi Marius,

This is submitted to your municipal council in Portugal, 3 months after you have been living in Portugal. It is an affidavit that you have sufficient financial means for yourself and your family. It is likely that your municipal council in Portugal have these forms, as Norway has the same facilities to live in Portugal as any other EU country.

Maybe some of the members here from EU countries can help you. It seems to me that you don't need to provide any proof of your income, just a written affidavit. I think it must be written in Portuguese or English.

@JohnnyPT Thanks Johnny! I am mostly just unsure of how to exactly write this affidavit…i think it is just a personal declaration with a notary signature but wanted to check here if someone had went through this process.

You do not need a notary. All you have to do is to go to the Town Hall where you will live and fill in the form they will provide. For example, Lisbon City Hall has this form with the affidavit:

Is this a new requirement? I cannot recall that we were asked for any financial information 3 months after arriving in Portugal.

JohnnyPT

This is not a new requirement. Although the SEF page states it, I don't know if all local councils have forms that cover this issue. I haven't seen any EU citizens talking about it either.

It's not asking for financial proof, it's just a check box in a form somewhere....

Yoyagi

@JohnnyPT Well that is easy then…a simple checkbox on a form is always preferable :) Thanks for the help again Johnny!

Hi - just checking in - I am in the same situation soon - was it just a check box? :)

@AJ-za

This procedure is only for people who do not need a visa, i.e. EEA countries. I don't know if that's your case.

AJ-za

@JohnnyPT thanks for replying! EU citizens so no visa required. hoping it really is as easy as a tenplate form with a tickbox ðŸ˜
