Formalities to bring your pet in the Cook Islands

Post new topic

Julien

Hi all,

What are the formalities and paperwork required to bring your pet in the Cook Islands?

How long do formalities & paperwork usually take in the Cook Islands?

What are the relevant authorities to contact?

Which vaccines are compulsory? Do your pets have to go in quarantine at their arrival in the Cook Islands?

Which advice would you give to the ones who would like to move with a dog, a cat or any other pet?

Thanks in advance for participating :)

Cats and dogs may only be imported from New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom and Ireland and only
if sent as cargo in strong containers.
There is a exception to eye-seeing dogs which may accompany a passenger on the flight if the airline so allows.

Certain islands in Cook Islands have their own regulations. For example there is no dogs at all allowed on Aitutaki.

For full regulation one can buy the regulations from the Cook Islands government for a small fee.
The following regulations may be of interest:
- 1980/3 Animals
- 1982/4 Animals Dicease Prevention
- 1982/3 Animals Import
- 1985/4 Animals Importation (Exemption)
- 1994/9 Animals Importation (Ostriches)
- 1995/13 Animals Importation Regs
