Post new topic

OK looking at buying with cash a new car.  Found tons of people online talking about the process for new cars in Mexico.  But nothing about the the new plates for the car.  So has anyone bought a new car and if so how does the plates work?  Thanks ahead of time did tons of research on this online and see getting new gets you all the paperwork done for you.. but never talk about how you get plates.

@MexicoAfterlife You just go to the dealership and sign the title papers. You will receive temporary plates that are good for 2 weeks. Give your salesperson $50. Twenty five is for the plates the rest for his assistance. Ten days later he calls you to come back to the dealership to pick up your plates. He installs them for you- front and back. They are good until you sell the car.

Hola!

when we bought our new car in Mexico, in San Miguel de Allende,  the Nissan dealership arranged to have the plates for us when we picked up the car. We didn’t have to do anything except pick up the car when all the documents were ready.

Note: keep all of your documentation! You will need it eventually if/when you sell your vehicle.

Also, you may be surprised surprised when you are asked to go to the service area to get your vehicle. There was music, singing and flowers as they pulled the curtain back to reveal our new X-Trail. By the way, we chose to buy a Nissan when we noticed that a LOT of taxis here are Nissans.
