What is life like in Guyana for an expat ?

Post new topic

habubauza

Hello everyone,  I currently live and work in the US. My parents are originally from Guyana. I would like to know what it is like to live in Guyana these days, especially as an expat. I haven't been there since 1981, and I would love to see it again with my wife and daughter. I am interested to understand what it would be like to live there in retirement. Thank you!

hello Habubauza,

Welcome on board !

Please note that I have created a new thread from your post on the Guyana forum so that members may share their insights with you.

Have you considered going on a short trip (maybe for holidays) to have a feel of what it "could" be ?

All the best

Living in Guyana as an expat is influenced by its diverse culture, friendly people, and unique landscapes.

Expats often enjoyed the rich cultural tapestry, with influences from East Indian, African, Amerindian, and European traditions. The cost of living is generally moderate, but infrastructure and services vary across regions.

Guyana is a terrible place since I was born to 2024. I find those color people are racist among themselves. The hindu are the worst. The muslims second that and the negro with the mulatto species. I find most of them can't read and write plus lack comprehension of proper English.  Most of them speak a broken English or creole mix English language with a major attitude of aggression.  They curse alot and make hurtful jokes. The education system is geared to make everyone a socialist, working for government.  The government are also racist party for religion and the other is a bull dogs to protect the religious party of the government. If you want to invest in Guyana, you must see the government first or lose your investment in difficulties with locals, public servant who think they are authorities and the government party. There is still alot of hateful CRIMEs, abuse of one another and death by self inflicted or others. The place is known for marijuana farmers and the Venezuelan trafficking cocaine.  The guyanese and the Venezuelan are the same by skills and trade. They also hate each other just like guyanese dislike guyanese.  The only time you find unity amount the people is when money is to be made of sporting of drugs and alcohol. Does not matter the class of guyanese, all of them are the same till violence and killing break out. The community living is also another problem with no sewage system, bad narrow roadway and dirty public drinking water. The housing skeem is mostly toilet pit or septic tank.  The smell can be unpleasant on a hot summer day. Driving around the country road is also dusty and smelly situation. On a rainy day, you can expect flooding water mixing with sewage, muddy nasty and dangerous to walk due to many water proudly on pavements. So, some people will steal electricity from the GPL company including water.  The women are not worth it, since they are all gold digger with suckers for men.The children you can see are abuse from malnutrition and lack of thinking skills. The local food is not worth it. Most of the local food are fri and die snacket. There's a few good restaurants in Georgetown.  It's a difficult place to understand even if you are born there. The hindu and muslims call themselves Indian but don't speak a native hindustani language or arabic language.  The indigenous peoples also speak a creole mix English, don't know how native is that?. The Chinese are the best people in Guyana from what I see. There are a few Portuguese, but they are in hiding with their riches. Its difficult to find any made in USA goods or products. Rudeness, ignorance, disorder and dysfunction are the gifts of guyanese people.  I never sees to have a good moment no matter where you go. I noticed the people have a foriegner mind with local attitude. The church,  lol, are all sinners once you get to know them. The culture is lost cause. The ethics and morals are blind. I can go on and on with Guyana crazy and good is a no given. Really don't understand why people vacation there, must be the drugs and the babylonian lifestyle.  Lots of deception from what I can see in Guyana.  I wouldn't call tha country poor since it does not have any public transportation, garbage collection or feeding center for the poor. It's a confusing place but then again, that is COMMUNISM.
