Can someone explain why UBER blocks out the plate number of vehicles responding to ride requests. Or is there some trick I am missing?

Try this on for size, uber is basically illegal here in Colombia.

Voyager: thanks. Kind of knew their past troubles in Colombia. How are you faring in South America? Got back to Colombia聽 after 3 years and found Bogota severely degraded, and much more dangerous.

There are major social changes happening in the country, racial, social, economic etc. They are likely to get worse for many years. Very sad and disappointing. But I am only here temporarily.
