I've checked the Renfe site and they say sharp work objects properly packed are allowed.
I am traveling from Granada to Oviedo as I am moving there and I need to transport my nice kitchen knives that I use to prepare meals.

Any experience with this issue would be helpful.

As long as they are out of sight you should be fine.

This may help.聽 It would be best if you had a legitimate reason to carry a sharp instrument; for example, chefs normally fall in this category and usually have a particular box/case they transport their knives inside.聽 I don't think Renfe check your luggage before you board the train.聽 If you're flying with your knives, then you should notify the airline you're travelling with and they will arrange for you to check them in with your luggage; you will not get through airport security checks carrying any sharp knife.

The kitchen knives are tools for cooking and eating.

They will be extremely well packaged in a safe manner and burried deep within my locked suitcase.

My "profession" is being retired so I suppose I could justify being an amateur chef馃樃

Sometimes, in the paranoid environment of this modern world, it is difficult to find common sense, however I shall keep searching for it.

@chasleslieb We tried this in 2021 because we were staying in an Airbnb for a month and I wanted a decent knife. Fully wrapped in towels are secured in a plastic. They confiscated it because we didn鈥檛 have a receipt for the knife. Who carries around a receipt for a knife they鈥檝e had for years?! Unfortunately we were trying to catch the last train of the night so I didn鈥檛 have time to argue.

@Cynic Renfe does scan baggage, which is why our knife was confiscated.

I just had them confiscate two chef knives, in custom sheaths and wrapped. Last time was no problem. This time I lost $1000 worth of knives. 馃槩

Sorry to hear that.聽 I had a pocket knife confiscated in Madrid because the blade was "too long" even though it passed getting on the train in Granada.聽 They also聽 had me remove a blade from my box cutter even though the handle of the box cutter was filled with spare blades... go figure???

I had all my kitchen knives driven up in a car with my daughter otherwise they would have been gone I'm sure.聽 Personally I think it is over the top and an unreasonable regulation that is enforced rather haphazardly.
