Hair stylist job

Post new topic

antoinettecoetzee19

I'm a qualified hair stylist with 30 years experience in the industry and would like to relocate to Costa Rica.

Any advice on job opportunities will be welcomed

@antoinettecoetzee19  Hola,Buenos Dias, it's illegal for you to be employed here in pura vida land since the unemployment rate is so high for Ticos . Your only option is to open your own studio. Que tengas suerte😎

@antoinettecoetzee19......Costa Rica is not North America's backyard......It is very  simple, what applies where you are from, it does not here. That is with everything !

Definitely must apply for residencyw/work option and it also  depend where you will live here. Many folks not living in big cities can open their own business in there homes ofcourse but this is more common in the campo where I live. There is a definate need for hair and nail salons here lovely ppl don't worry youll make it just fine! Good luck

@inivin57......I can't believe you are giving this advice when you can't even make your 'caja'payments or struggling financially here.

Edwin, It seems to me that you are saying that is a negative - things here are not the same as where one is from.

Actually I look at that as a very positive thing. Things in CR are not like they are in the USA - Thank God !

I moved here 13 years ago and love every day I am here. My only regret was that I didn’t move here sooner.

Just an observation on your comment ……

Wow, Edwin, that’s pretty harsh !

What does her financial situation (good or bad) have to do with her offering advice to someone about working in CR as a hair stylist ? Absolutely nothing, in my opinion.

Cheers ….

@jwboozeriii......Correct,Costa Rica has profound common sense !! It is not too smart coming to a 3rd world country looking for a job or for financial opportunities, nor is it wise giving that kind of advice that it is easy-peasy here. .......What is harsh is the reality that not everyone that is broke from around the world can come in (verifiable fact).Their financial circumstance do not allow them access for long term.We only have an open border with Nicaragua and not THE WORLD !

You certainly can open a beauty salon in Costa Rica, but as a non-citizen you are not permitted to actually do any work that could be done by a Tico. So you could not, for example, cut or style hair, give shampoos or 'cures, set appointments, sweep the floor, etc. You could unlock and lock the door, hire employees, etc.

The problem that would arise would be if a competing salon felt that you were intruding on their business and reported you to the authorities. You could be forced to close your shop and to leave the country having violated the terms of your tourist visa or temporary residency.
