Just another open discussion on food, whether you all have adapted to local Philippine cuisine or not. I have not and have a struggle, the food is bland, overcooked and seems that it lacks creativity. Sometimes I feel that it's made quickly that people can eat, and the base is rice. Now because I enjoy cooking and my wife does as well, and she has been abroad in a few countries got to know western style food. So, we are trying to compliment the local food with western influence being it with spices or the way we cook. Example: Rice noodles boiled in a broth, with oyster sauce, soy sauce, garlic, a bit of paprika powder, Cajun powder. Add the cabbage, and carrots and only cook them for 3 to 4 mins to keep them crispy. Separately chicken breasts cut first butterfly then cut into strips, fried in olive oil, onions with bbq spice, soy sauce, whole chillies (green), once done add on top of the noodles, for us it's so delicious. I make apart from that a number of South African dishes involving, chicken, pork, vetkoek, pancakes, waffles, curries, Bobotie etc. We also do home baked bread, white, wholewheat, Sourdough etc. Will be somehow interesting to share what others do, maybe we can even start sharing some great recipes, who knows.

I live in Metro Manila. There is a chain named "Pho Hoa" in many malls with excellent Bahn Mi, closest Ive had to Saigon's. They have a full menu of Vietnamese food.

Thanks Dan,

I will be in the Duma, Dauin area in a month or so... I will need to get the location please...聽聽I had a couple great places in my home of Calgary Canada.... but will never forget the geat Bahn Mi in Saigon.... Next time I visit Palawan I may have to make a side trip to Vietnam... so close.

You are right about a good balance of both of your cooking... learn from one another.聽 I do love the chicken and fish here but the Philippines is not going to win any culinary awards outside of the amazing bakery's.聽 Thai food is the best and I have found some great resteraunts聽 in the Phills that do a great job with Thai dishes.

Anyone found a good location for Bahn mi in the Philippines?

Don I wish we could find a decent bakery here, 5 years nada. Bake our own for pumpkin or zucchini soup,,,,, ah that time of year again, getting cooler here.
