Boat boating, import and use of boats in Cambodia

Post new topic

Hi people,

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I like boats. I notice that allmost all the boats i see apart from the wooden traditional styles are made in china alibaba style. There are also a few very high living billionaire boats but i dont see much of anything else. Maybe I walk around blind.

I want to import my own custom made 8.4m, pilot house 2x yamaha OB, trailer boat and trailer to Cambodia. Naturally i have a few queries.

*How is this done?

*whats it cost? tax? registration? and the trailer, same questions?... i have never seen a road trailer for a boat in Cambodia or even Thailand or Laos for that matter.

*Being a custom home made boat how is the boat valued for tax?

Boat Use:

*Can I use a marine licence from abroad?

*Are licences required to pilot a boat?

*Can foreigners get a marine licence if needed? or must I simply hire a Khmer to skipper for me whenever I go out? (something i would do anyway until i learnt all the new boating rules).

*Any ideas on what if any are rhe safery requirements on a marine vessel both inland and offshore in Cambodia?

I have found little information on the web about this subject which I find surprising given the awesome potential and exciting destinations easily reachable in Cambodia.

Very eager to hear from any of you with any information.

Hi I am a UK foreigner retired boat owner, but my vessel is a schooner 20 tons, and I will say that it is a jungle when wanting to have a vessel in Cambodia, shinouckville port is the sailing area of Cambodia, but you will not find many boats, they are not really sailing types more fishing & tourist providers, and marinas are non existent, there was one once till 2019 but it ceased business, yachting of any sort is a grey area in how you approach it completely, importing a vessel is in tax a complicated cost, if you have no paperwork of purchase, it can be assessed at what ever they feel is reasonable, which can sometimes be more then the boats worth, most go to Thailand as they have marinas and it's easy to get there, cambodia is just not set up for foreign boat owners, living in Cambodia, and nothing is straight forward, I have studied many of the regulations of importing a vessel but it's still up to speculation and interpretation, my vessel is likely to go to Indonesia, its much more simple,
