Nice post Wayne,  I agree and add a couple words.   Yes its not  good / bad  etc.   I  say it does not work FOR ME.  But it can and will work for many others!  I judge based on my needs but I have no right to judge based on anyone else's needs or wants.

Today I will share my frustration..........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.   I live in a nice neighborhood in  Puerto Plata but commute  to spend a few days a month in Santo Domingo.

Can I just say how  much EDENORTE does not work for me!!!!  Carumba  13.5 hours with no power!  And they treat me on the phone like I am some kind of moron!  I clearly know when the  electricity is out  its DARK, its HOT and  I am cranky.  Person today insisted the electricity was NOT OUT.  Seriously you cannot make this up.

And now the electricity is back and I am getting  my work done!

**I do have an inverter and batteries.  So I am not totally in the dark.  You dont run air conditioners,  fridge, microwave  etc on the inverter!  AND you conserve battery life by using as little as possible! 13.5 hours and I still had a fan and internet  running.

Thx for your kind words. I get it. What works for you may not work for me. Well said. As far as the lights,  I feel you. We seem to go "dark" a lot even in clear weather. And when someone negates your experience it's even more frustrating. Good luck with that. It's something we all experience here.

To all the German expats that live in the Dominican Republic, could anybody please tell me where I can buy Gewürzgurken. I found pretty much everything else that my heart desires, but I can't stand sweet pickles and for a good Fränkischer Kartoffelsalat, at least the way I make it I need German pickles.

Thank you very much for any response.

is there a cargo/shipping company that you recommend?

Hola,  I am seriously contemplating moving to Santiago (near HOM) however am seeing internet speeds not so good. VOIP is a must for me.  Anyone have any idea if fiber might be in the area? Thank you

If you find a place with a clear view of the northern sky, consider getting Starlink. The price for the mini, which is a portable unit, is very reasonable!

cushion03yeti

That’s a good suggestion.  Thanks.

Normally Santiago is full of fiber multiple vendors. Easy to check the providers websites for fiber coverage

Thanks, that is good to know.

My last question-  is Santiago a livable city for a digital nomad?  I absolutely love the city as I have been in Higuey for the last year (I want outt!).

Santiago  fits me well but the adverse weather conditions (I see online) has me  concerned that  my ability to work from home (along with internet speeds) will be impacted. Will he about 8 mins from HOMS.

The latter I feel a little better about although it’s kinda hard to gauge by only visiting and staying in a hotel.

Thank you very much.

Is there anyway to get a replacement debit card sent to the DR from my home bank using mailbox etc or any other mail service? Thank you

Ask  your bank what they are willing to do.  there are lots of ways but if your bank isn't agreeable its a waste of time!
